Irish fans pelt own players with snowballs

Any of the Notre Dame students throwing snowballs during Saturday's game may want to steer clear of defensive end Pat Kuntz in this short week before the Thanksgiving holiday. A snowball pelted Kuntz right in his mohawked noggin during the first half Saturday, drawing some choice words from the senior at the time and then after the game. "Whatever the fans want to do," a clearly perturbed Kuntz said. "They start throwing snowballs at their own team -- I don't think that's a smart thing to do. So I guess it was funny."

Oh well ND fans, there goes your whole "at least we have class at our institution" approach to your pathetic situation in 2008.

November 23, 2008  10:03 AM ET

I would find the kid that threw the snowball that hit an Irish player and make him/her the QB.

November 23, 2008  10:22 AM ET

Considering they're drunk college students, the players should feel lucky it was just snowballs.

November 23, 2008  10:23 AM ET

Too bad they couldn't post a picture of said snowballs.

November 23, 2008  10:35 AM ET

Wow, a new low for ND.

November 23, 2008  10:38 AM ET

To bad there was no sno-cone syrup around for fat charlie.

November 23, 2008  10:38 AM ET

I meant "Too" bad. Dammit.

November 23, 2008  10:53 AM ET

What? Where's the uproar? Oh.....you mean fans in other cities do dumb things and no one cares because it wasn't Philly? Hmm...must've been students from Philly then.

November 23, 2008  10:55 AM ET

Pat Kuntz? He have brother Harry?

November 23, 2008  11:35 AM ET

Irish baseball and softball teams should have competitive pitching staffs this season.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow......

This article gives quite a false impression. The snowballs thrown at the game were by a minority of the student body, and it did not come out of frustration. The grounds crew at the stadium left a lot of snow in the stands, so the students decided to have fun and throw snowballs. Most snowballs were just wayward throws (usually at other students), and they were almost all thrown in the first quarter. If the students were that angry with the players (their friends and fellow students), then the majority would have abandoned them. They didn't. Almost every student stuck around in the nearly 15 degree weather, even after we lost. We all stuck around and sang the alma mater with the team and band. Don't accuse us of lacking class. We support our team far more than most other schools would in these cases. We're loyal to our team, and even when we don't win, we stand by our team. Go Irish.

I once saw Kuntz push a girl during bookstore basketball, then threaten a kid that was approximately half his size. Needless to say, he's a great guy.

November 23, 2008  02:30 PM ET

Classy, classy kids they got at Notre Lame. Way to encourage the team to actually try. Losers, you should be ashamed of yourselves as much as you are of your team.

November 23, 2008  02:32 PM ET

Willingham must have made it snow.

November 23, 2008  03:11 PM ET

Where is Mr. "wax-on wax-off"? Students echo the class act that is ND.

November 23, 2008  03:19 PM ET

And, where is The Irish? Are his hands frostbitten from throwing snowballs, so he can't type?

November 23, 2008  03:37 PM ET

They weren't throwing snowballs. They were throwing the 8,000 le'is for that Mormon linebacker from Hawaii. Catholics from the midwest just don't know what it takes to get leid.

That must be the reason they couldn't stop that powerhouse running game, they were hit by snowballs. Charlie told the fans to bring snowballs but he meant the snack type!!!!
