Sources: Snyder returning to K-State

Bill Snyder, 69, is returning to the Kansas State sideline after retiring three years ago, sources told The Star on Sunday night. Details of his contract were not revealed, but a source said it was a five-year deal worth $1.8 million a season. It's a surprising move, in that Snyder insisted in 2005 he was leaving on his terms, stating "it is the right time." Clearly, retirement wasn't the solution -- Snyder attended every home game in Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Technically, he's the 34th football coach at K-State, but he was the 32nd. There was some thought that the position was Texas Christian coach Gary Patterson's to lose, especially after an Internet report surfaced Nov. 7 stating Patterson, a former K-State player, had been hired. K-State athletic director Bob Krause angrily denounced the report, but suspicions persisted along with rumors. But a source said it was Snyder from the beginning.

Bad news for Gary Pinkel and the Tigers. With Nebraska's new head coach, Bo Pelini, finding some success, and Snyder returning to Kansas State, it looks like it's back to fighting for third place in the North for Missouri.

Snyder is a good coach, but much like Major's return to Pitt, it's going to be tough to rekindle the magic.

I've always thought JUCO's were a more proven commodity than a High School superstar.

And the fact MO is losing almost every player on off. is not going to help.

It was my understanding JUCOs were usually students who had grade issues and courseowrk issues.

I could be wrong.

Its not cause schools didnt want them its because they couldnt perform in the classroom a lot of these kids are five star athletes as for kansas state not a good move you went from snyder when state was dying to ron prince who was slowly rebuilding now you go back to snyder expected a better choice this set k- state back another five years this is the next washington

JUCO's are often blue-chips who had terrible grades and SAT's or guys who had some trouble with the law or discipline. A few were overlooked and turn out to be superstars.

And, why did this become a discussion about JUCO's.

Snyder is a great coach, and he will upset the system. If TT loses Leach, Kansas State will become the new Texas Tech, and the Jayhawks will never be heard from again.

This kind of reminds me of when the Alabama fans, post Bear Bryant, when they ran another coach out of town & were considering future coaching options.... the refrain was "dig him up"..... looks like KSU is actually going to do that..... (don't let Alabama know or they'll have the shovels at the ready)

Hes washed up he has been away from the game for awhile could that be a plus sure why not hope it does for his sake but i just dont see how snyder is going to bring k-state to back to glory faster than a good young coach like ron prince its just a bad move all together

Yes that is the point they have to many issues, that is why most teams dont want jucos unless they are rebuilding the program. Which is what k-state does every year.

B/C all Bill Snyder does is go after Jucos for the most part, i would say 75% of his roster in the past where jucos.

thats a pretty outstanding stat lol

Didn't say it was bad because I'm sure some JUCO coaches are ecstatic Snyder is coming back. I just like getting the dimwits stirred up (:
