Angels may affect Yankees' Sabathia deal
On Nov. 22, 2006, the Angels signed Gary Matthews Jr. to a five-year, $50-million contract. On Nov. 21, 2007, the Angels signed Torii Hunter to a five-year, $90-million contract. That history explains why this could be a crucial week regarding the Yankees' pursuit of CC Sabathia. The Angels have said they again want to move aggressively this offseason, and their top target is free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira. If Teixeira, represented by notoriously methodical agent Scott Boras, doesn't accept quickly, the Angels could move on and try to sign Sabathia. But if Teixeira does re-sign with the Angels, Sabathia could give up his West Coast dreams and sign with the Yankees. Angels general manager Tony Reagins said earlier this month that his club probably can't afford both Teixeira, who is looking for a deal upwards of $150 million, and Sabathia. Teixeira also is desired by the Red Sox, Orioles and the Nationals, with the Yankees on the periphery.

Take his fat **** back to the AL, the way the Brewers abused him plus his weight, he will not last through a five year contract anyway

Wasn't that Matthews signing a fine piece of work.... I'm unclear of the connection of signing CC and Teixiera, sounds made up..... The Angels need a first baseman however you look at it....

The connection, I think, is that if the Angels lose out on Tex, they'll go hard for CC.
Conversely, I think, if the Yanks lose out on CC, I think they'll go hard after Tex.
Once the first domino falls, the rest should fall quickly.

Morning hyper and sr and yes I also think that once the first free agent signing happens that the next few big names will also sign within days of the first.

Well CCs offer from the Yanks is not without a time limit...that is what has been reported. The Yanks are not going to wait around too long and let the pitching escape by putting all their eggs in one basket so to speak. There is a possibility that CC will wait too long to get the money from the Yankees, I don't think anyone else will match that offer.

CC is not going to get anyone to bid 6 years for $140M. The only way this works is if the Yanks pull their offer off the table but then fail to sign Burnett or Tex in which case they might come back to CC with an even better offer. But that is a large gamble and do you really want to risk $140M that way?

not sure how that has ANY bearing on CC- since the Yanks
offer (reportedly) is huge......

Yeah... this might mean that the Angels offer him 5 years $115 million. Dude is ending up in Pinstrips

The time line is crap. Yankees are not giving Lowe or Burnett 5 years... therefore C.C. The Hut is the only pitching option left on their table. They will wait like everyone else.

I agree with the last part but not the forst, their offer to Burnett is already on the table. I think a time frame makes sense for them on this because if they fail to sign CC they are going to have to make other moves, they need atleast one starter more. They will need to continue to move agressively on this and can not get pinned down waiting forever.

there is a good chance CC signs before texeria so I don't get the relevance of this article.

Boras will not allow Tex, Manny, or Lowe to sign before C.C.

The Baseball Union will not let C.C. take less. If he takes less money or years, it will bring down Manny, Burnett, and Lowe's stock. It is all about the $$$

Which is a bunch of crap. Now, say for example, granted a long long shot, but its down to Brewers and Yankees, and CC wants the NL where he can hit and pitched very strongly down the stretch. Brewers are offering less, but if that's what he wants, that's what he should get, regardless of the what the union execs "think is best for him", but in all reality "its what's best for us".
