Cubs, Royals revisiting deal
The Mark Teahen-to-the-Cubs rumor has resurfaced in Chicago. The Chicago Tribune reported on Sunday that "Kansas City is focused" on second baseman Mike Fontenot and left-handed pitcher Sean Marshall in a possible trade for Teahen. Teahen's name was linked to the Cubs in mid-October before the Royals had added to their outfield by obtaining Coco Crisp in a deal with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. Cubs manager Lou Piniella has expressed interest in adding left-handed bats. Teahen slid to .255 last season but, in the two previous seasons, had batted .285 and .290 for the Royals. Last season he had 15 home runs and 59 RBIs in 149 games. Teahen is versatile, capable of playing left and right field as well as third and first base.

Pull trigger, good trade for both teams, good players from areas of surplus to areas of need

Yeah, I think this would be a good deal for the Cubs, although it seems to me that Fontenot is kind of a spark plug for them at times.

i think its a great trade if you can take over for soriano if he's injured, fukudome when he slides back down into a depression, derrek lee when he takes the weeks off from hitting that he's been doing....and aramis when he just plain needs a rest...i love that trade...iiiiii dont know so much about giving up fontenot though...ill trade you derosa...even though man id hate myself for doing that one too

I think the cubs need to find another deal, Fontenot and Marshall were big pieces in the Peavy deal. I don't think that will get done, but turning around and swapping them for Teahen seems like a bit of desperation to me. And I think there are better options out there to trade for. Teahen's not even the cubs top choice from the Royals

Fontenot and Marshall for Tehan is a steal for the Royals as far as I'm concerned.

Is Teahan even any good? I looked at his numbers and for the Cubs to give away Fot and Marshall would be idiotic

You're absolutely right on about the Soriano, Fukudome, Lee and Ramiraz.......but you missed the boat on Derosa. He could have easily been considered the Cubs mvp last year because of filling in for those four plus playing 2nd. He proved that the best trade the Cubs made was the one they didn't make for Roberts and don't want to see the same thing with Fontenot. I agree with CF2. Funny how a Card fan seems to have a good read on the Cubs.

Agreed, but Fontenot is inconsistent and not much for power.

Why don't you send us Fontenot for Chris Duncan. I like the Fontenot. He was stellar for you in the games he started last year. Check his splits as a starter or a sub. A 900 OPS isn't bad at all for a second baseman. I think the Cubs will regret it if they send him to KC for Teahan.

That would almost be as ridiculous as Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio! If Hendry gave up Fontenot for Teahan even, he'd be making a big mistake. Fontenot could be in the upper half of 2bman in the MLB if he was given the chance to play everyday. Hell, he's Theriot with a little less range, but a lot more pop in his bat.

Would the Cards even think of letting Duncan go?

They might let Duncan go for everyone's sake. He's starting to take even more heat here and that's a shame. Even when he hit over 30 home runs in two half seasons, he took heat for only being here because of his dad. The best thing they could do for him is send him somewhere outside of Dad's shadow.
I doubt they could get much for him now that he's had surgery on his neck. We're awfully crowded in the outfield with left handed bats. Ludwick might hit right handed, but he has the splits of a lefty. It must have something to do with that throws left - hits right thing.

Change of scenery might be good for him. Tough call when trades involve division opponents though.

I agree. I have a hard time seeing the Cards dealing Duncan to the Cubs.......

TEAHEN...What about David DeJesus? He has much better stats than Teahen. If I'm the Cubs DeJesus is my man. He can play all the outfield positions and always bats around .300 and a .780 OPS.
