Why Patriots-Dolphins game got chippy

Matt Light could face a possible suspension after getting into a fight with Miami's Channing Crowder with 7:08 to go in yesterday's 48-28 Pats victory. Both players were ejected. The bad blood between the two teams raged before the nasty skirmish broke out right after Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 30-yard field goal to make it 41-28.. The Pats offensive lineman was seen throwing punches at Crowder, pummeling the Miami linebacker after the latter's helmet came off. Light, in fact, landed several blows to Crowder's head. The Patriots can ill-afford losing their left tackle and Matt Cassel???s blind side protector for any number of games, especially over an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. While Light wasn't talking after the game, fellow offensive lineman Logan Mankins, who also was involved in a tussle with a Miami player on the same play but didn't receive a penalty, provided some insight as to what went on with Light and Crowder. "He was doing a good job, drilling him right in the head," Mankins said of Light, "so kudos to Matt." Why was it so chippy out there? "Any time you have a team with the guy 55 (Joey Porter), he just won't shut up the entire game," Mankins said. "Then I think some of the other guys are starting to play the way he does." Mankins didn't seem to think Light would get suspended based on precedent this season.

Q. Why Patriots-Dolphins game got chippy?

A. Because it was a Patriots-Dolphins game

As Moss said "They disrespected us..." So much for the wildcat, back to the drawing board.
First game whipping by the Dolphins and trash talk really lit this fire.
Hey Porter!!!

Thank you Brett Favre and the Jets for keeping the Patriots 16-0 regular season record intact.

Wow--Crowder looked a little punk running away from Light (although that's the smart play when you have your hat off).

November 24, 2008  10:54 AM ET

Some would call it 'chippy', but in reality just more dirty play from a dirty player. The Pats have more dirty players on that team than any other; possibly a reflection of their dirty coach.

It's a smart play when the guy slapping you around weighs 150lbs more than you

You think Light weighs 400 pounds?

November 24, 2008  11:10 AM ET

I am willing to bet Joey Porter is on roids.

Too bad a good game got out of hand by the refs making bad calls and the Pats turning cheap shot artist.

What else were you expecting from a good old NFL Sunday game?

I guess your right too much to ask the refs to be consistent and make good calls and the Pats to not act like the Pats.

The scuffle was a perfect end to a very good game.

Kinda curious, why did Crowder get ejeted? From the looks of it, all I saw was Matt Light pull off his helmet and then start wailing on him. I didn't see Crowder reciprocate at all.

Do you think Matt Light just decided to hit someone randomly? I would suspect words were exchanged and his were considered uncalled for. You can see his face as he runs away. He's laughing. That's not the face of someone randomly assaulted, its the face of someone who got what he wanted.

Just wait till Miami loses a few more games. That should shut them up.

November 24, 2008  12:30 PM ET

one of the dirtiest plays i have ever seen....smack talk is a big part of this game....pulling someones hair, holding his head down with his own hair, while pummeling him on the back of the head is uncalled for...

these same punches are illegal in both MMA and boxing, yet Matt Light does it? IF there is no SIGNIFICANT suspension, goodell will be on Kraft;'s secret payroll
