Cuban making Nellie wait for money
It's become apparent that owner Mark Cuban is going to make former Mavericks' coach Don Nelson wait as long as possible to get the $7.1 million he's owed in back pay. Whether it's out of spite or because Cuban can earn money off the amount that an arbitrator and court have ruled he owes Nelson, the owner plans to take the appeals process as far as he can. This in spite of e-mails in court documents that were examined Monday that state in an e-mail from Cuban's attorney, Geoffrey Harper, to Nelson's attorney, Don Colleluori: "I think the team is making a business decision [I don't think anyone expects this to end differently than the current judgment; but apparently, it is cheaper to use the money and pay later. I'm not sure I understand it, to be candid]. Another of Nelson's attorneys, John O'Connor said the situation simply makes Cuban look petty.

While i admit Cuban is has a lot on his plate financially (SEC indictment, possible cubs purchase). I have to believe this billionaire could pay the $7.1 million owed to Don. I think this situation does make Cuban look a little petty.

Cuban is playing too much games. He needs to just let go of some petty change to save his butt. Pay the fines and don't wait for a criminal indictment. Not worth it.

Just pay the man and call it a day. There is no need to be petty over this.

Gentlemen; welcome to the world of big money. Cuban knew from day 1 he would have to pay-- Nelson had a contract. However, by the time the appeals process is finished, Cuban will have earned enough money to pay Nelson, and it won't cost him a dime.

Cuban didn't become a billionaire by being a nice guy. When there is a judgment, a person has a specific amount of time within which to pay that judgment. A real business man keeps the $7mill in the bank, invests and earns interest on it, and pays the judgment on the last possibel day. Nothing wrong with that if he weren't a billionaire. It doesn make him look petty and I'm sure he's doing it out of spite.

I wouldn't say it won't cost him a dime but I agree with the rest of what you said. If you look at it from a personal standpoint it shows Cuban is a bad guy. If you look at it from a business standpoint then you see Cuban is a smart guy. Just think about it. If you had 7.5 mil and could put off a bill for 2 years (or more) and earn interest on that money for that time OR you could pay up front, which would be the smartest business move? I don't like Cuban for many reasons, mainly arrogance but when it comes to business he is top notch. He has been good for Dallas.

He is what everyone thought he was. Petty is the nicest word I can think of when I think of Cuban..Mean, childish, spiteful, vindictive, selfish, annoying...more of the nicer words for him. Go Nellie, get him again...

Hope a lot of NBA players are watching this and consider it when signing Maverick offer sheets. Maybe you get paid ... maybe you don't. Good long term planning Cuban.

He takes care of his players though. He may be a jerk but he turned the Mavs from bottom dwellers to contenders and they are one of the highest valued teams in the NBA.
