Tiger interested in reliever
The Tigers don't appear to be nearing a deal with free agent reliever Joe Beimel. No one else does, either. "It's not real active right now, other than interest being expressed," Beimel's agent, Joe Sroba, said in a Monday telephone interview. "Nothing is imminent." The left-handed Beimel went 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA in 71 appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers this year. Left-handers batted .278 against him but had only three extra-base hits, all doubles. The Tigers previously contacted Sroba to express interest in Beimel. The Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies and New York Mets are among the other potential suitors.

The hot stove does seem to be taking a bit longer than usual to heat up this year.
The Tigers could sure use this guy.

What kind of number is 97? Does Beimel think he's a defensive end?

Beimel's a heck of a pitcher. Any of the teams mentioned could use him.

With the Rockies losing Fuentes, Beimel would be a good replacement. I think he could do very well at Coors.

The Tigers really need a set rotation, first. If they did sign him, he better be ready to go to work by the fourth or fifth inning. He'd be an improvment over anything their bullpen did last season, though.
