After pulling out of stalled trade talks for San Diego ace Jake Peavy, the Braves have turned their attention north to hard-throwing Toronto Blue Jays free agent A.J. Burnett. His agent said the Braves are among six teams "fully engaged" in negotiations for Burnett, who had a career-best 18-10 record with a 4.07 ERA in 2008 and led the American League with 231 strikeouts in 221 1/3 innings. Four front-runners for the 31-year-old right-hander's services are from the American League East: The New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Blue Jays. The others: the Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Moose off to the farm, CC to Anaheim, Burnett to Atlanta, Lowe to Boston, Cybil Pettite to LA. Who are the Yanks gonna sign to pitch?

how much focus for how many years? ha!

Rumor has it that Burnett and Hampton will share a contract.

You've gotta love this dance the Braves and Padres are performing. Peavy will be a Brave next year.

Let's see, the Cubs are the front runner for Peavy even though they aren't aware they are in the race, and the Braves are going to sign an injury prone pitcher to a massive long term contract so soon after the Hampton debacle - right.

Yea, maybe they should sign Kenny Lofton.

Atlanta doesn't have a prayer....they will suck next year just like they did this year and it serves them right.....bunch of arrogant ****.

Any team that measures success by winning one World Series in 14 straight chances is swimming in it's own dilusions.

just to be clear,... you're 4th and final fan right?

I'm convinced Peavy is coming to the Braves.... I think the Braves just want to make it known to SD that they're in the game for Burnett, so they better come down off their high horse and do the deal..... I've just watched all these little comments and leaks coming from SD and ATL for a couple of weeks.... it's like little zingers going back and forth.... "We might trade Peavy to Chicago".... "Yeah?, well we might go sign Burnett".... and on and on....

November 26, 2008  09:41 AM ET

Or the organization feels they need two big starters to compete next year. The money is available to get both Burnett and Peavy.

True.... but it will cost us a SS (allegedly) to get Peavy.... so would then need to deal with SS, LF and CF..... they can't all be stop gap solutions....

lol

why would the braves be dumb enough to sign him after
all the past experiences they've had with gimpy pitchers

- that being said- I am not sure why the Yanks are so
interested after their own injured pitching history

Whatever....my team has never lost a postseason series....in fact they are the only major league team that can say that.

Nice Fire sales every couple of years. I'm surprised the Marlins have any fans.

That'll all change once the new stadium is built. And they haven't had a "fire sale" since before the 1998 season.

They're also the only team that can claim they can name all their fans in less than 11 seconds.

Very True...how many sellouts did you have last year ManOfTeal. And I don't see how you only gauge the success of a club by the number of WS/chances. I don't know, I enjoyed the Braves dominating the division year in and year out. In the last 15 years, you have made the playoffs twice then? Good job. There's always next year.

I'm just proud of the fact that in the fifteen years my team has existed.....they have won two World Series. They are 2 for 2 in the postseason.....how many other so called "fans" would kill to be able to say that about their team......

So what if the Marlins don't have a big fan base at the moment?....as I said that will all change once the new stadium is completed.....then I won't be able to get down to Miami to see a game because they'll be so hard to get tickets for.....that will suck.
