Angels to up Sabathia offer

When word leaked out of San Francisco that the Giants were interested in free-agent jewel CC Sabathia, not many clubs, the Yankees included, took it too seriously. Now, a week later the landscape has moved to Southern California, where the Angels are hinting they will make an offer to the left-handed pitcher, who has a six-year, $140 million offer from the Yankees. The Brewers, who Sabathia pitched into the postseason this past season by going 11-2 in 17 starts, reportedly have made a five-year, $100 million offer. An offer from the Angels would help Sabathia's decision. He isn't going to take $40 million less to play in Milwaukee. But though the Angels aren't expected to top the Yankees' offer, they would give Sabathia another option besides the Brewers. And they can sell the notion that the Angels with Sabathia, who was 17-10 overall with the Indians and Brewers, are closer to winning a World Series than the Yankees are with him.

Do you think the Yankees can start the season with a 3 man rotation? Wang, Joba, Hughes. Seems nobody wants to sign there. CC to LA, Burnett to Atlanta, Lowe to Boston...

I hope he stays with the Brewers.

nah, thatls just Dan. what i thought when I read the arcticle is that they still wonlt have the best offer out there.

November 26, 2008  08:07 AM ET

I guarantee that CC will not be a Brewer. Also, to anybody that says or thinks something like I want CC to stay in Milwaukee because of loyalty or happiness or whatever: I hate you.

But this isn't an auction, AllStarz, the best offer isn't a lock to win.

Not surprised...Everyone hates NY these days, especially all the Boston Bandwagoneers. If CC goes to LA, he does. Burnett isn't going to Atlanta but that would be fine. Lowe....well...he loves Boston so much he'd probably pitch for free. No worries...NY will be fine.

pretty close to it, otherwise he would still be pitching in Cleveland

AllStarz: I double-posted for the same reason that Billy Madison spashed that water on his crotch and said he peed his pants.

No neccisarily. Their offer was $18M for four years and would have probably gone to where the Brewers were. Maybe he left Cleveland because he does want to be on the west coast.

I'm not saying that I know Sabathia is not going to the Yankees, but I think you're a little ahead of yourself in thinking it's a foregone conclusion that he will.

That would be closer to what he's worth than whatever he's going to get paid.

He left because of the gnats. On a serious note...I honestly don't know what CC will do, however, in like 99.99% of the cases, money wins. The whole "I have other factors to consider" is just bs.
