Heat unsure about adding Marbury

Opinions differ inside the Heat about whether to sign Stephon Marbury if the Knicks buy him out, and the decision will be based on how the team and point guards are playing then. Mario Chalmers was terrific Monday -- as Houston's Rafer Alston said, though Marbury is 'a great player -- do you stunt Chalmers' growth'' by signing him?

the heat need to take a chance on someone...between Marbury, Tinsley and Curry, I sort of would rather we got a big man, but since Curry's contract is multi year and so is Tinsley, why not chance it with Marbury for a year? plus you could always sit him down if he becomes a cancer...ban him from interacting with the team...i'm sure the league would note that its Stephan, not the teams if a second time bans him...

I would do it, Marbury is 31. I just feel like he knows this is his last chance, if he tries to go "circus" on another team, he's gone for good. It behooves him to play by the rule in his next gig, he has every incentive to do that.

Now watch him make me look like an idiot.....by making himself look like an idiot.

The Heat do need a big man. They have 2 capable PG in Chalmers and Quinn and sometimes DWade. Right now it would be 50/50. It does not matter if you get him or not.

Not really sure if you've ever actually watched Steph play-
cause I don't know where your comment is coming from...

-he's never gone 'circus' on ANY team.

His big issue is that he isn't a team player- not because he's
ron artest crazy....he just never really learned to play team ball-
and as a point guard - you HAVE to play team ball to win

His game will not change now after a dozen years in the league.
he could ABSOLUTELY be productive....scoring-wise- but if
whatever team he ends up on thinks he will 'lead' their team
to the playoffs or be the player that gets them over the hump
is SORELY mistaken....and this is not only my opinion- but
it is an OBJECTIVE FACT based on his long NBA history

Not sure. I have no problem with Stephon getting another chance, as a matter of fact I advocate for it, but as jgb stated Steph isn't a team player so putting him on a team with a young rookie head coach and a similar minded scorer in Dwayne Wade sounds like a recipe for trouble. The Heat just needs a PG that can bring the ball up the court and initiate the offense. That's all.

Steph would be better suited going to Golden State where the PG isn't really counted on for a lot of assists.

That would actually be a great stop for him . . . .

Can we have another post to write about please!

November 26, 2008  09:21 AM ET

Miami is nuts for even thinking of giving him a chance... this guy is clearly not interested in playing basketball unless he is forced to.

November 26, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Well let's see; first Riley Coyote thought Smush Parker was the answer, Then there was Shawn Livingston, now he's considering Marbury? What a moron. Someone described the definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Marbury's next job should be in Europe.

I am sure every other guy on Golden State would hate them bringing in Marbury. When hes taking 40+ shots a game and their shots are all cut in half, thats only gonna go on for about a gme or 2 before they kick his arse. If i had a choice between Marbury and Tinsley, it doesnt even take me a second to select Tinsley. Theres no player I can think if that I would least like to have than Marbury.

I like Marbury's game, the Heat should sign this gut. It's sad to see him wasting away on the bench..

November 26, 2008  09:51 AM ET

**sign this guy

November 26, 2008  09:52 AM ET

Im not ready to call Chalmers Super Mario just yet I mean after all the kid has had really only 2 terific games. Starbury on the otherhand has done done it his whole career.
Need i say more.
Either get Starbury or dont get him but for goodness sake Aryson & Riley do something ga damnit!

Look, I know you aren't a Steph fan but I have to agree that he would be a malcontent in that locker room as he is in every locker room that he's been in so far but Tinsley would be a horrible fit in that Golden State offense. He doesnt have Marbury's offensive game or his athleticism.

If anything Tinsley would be better suited for Miami as long as they keep him on a very tight leash as far as his social life is concerned.

where does this ball hog crap come from? until last year Marbury had career averages of 20 and 8 the only other player to have career numbers like that was Oscar Robinson! 8 assist a game is above the NBA average. There are some hateful people out here, cut the guy some slack, he didnt put a gun to the Knicks head they gave him the outrageous contract what was he suppose to do? say no? come on people............................

If I were the HEAT I will give it a try but with a B plan, I will make this trade: Marion & Banks & Anthony for Marbury & Lee; put some 2nd round picks on the mix for either team and it is done.

MIA:
1. This will give them a good PG who at first, can come of the bench as an offensive spark.
2. They would have Lee, a young starting C that grabs rebounds.
3. They will have an additional 4 mill of cap space for next year for Marbury and 1 mill more if they let Lee go.
4. Also they have roster flexibility with these 2 newcomers, allowin Chalmers and Beasley to develope as future all stars with a lowered pace and preassure.
5. US$ benefits on merchandise and marketing sales because of the status and names of the players involved.

NY:
1. They would get a Star who not only has been succesful on D??Antonys offensive system but who also happens to be an allaround defensive and rebounding presence.
2. They would get Anthony a good young and big athlete and a complementary PG on Banks (who was coached by D??Antony too.
3. If they choose so, they would still have 18 mill of $cap space next year if they let Marion go. Also they can buyout Banks more easily than Marbury.
4. They would have roster flexibility wich can led them to negotiate further trades with less preassure on what they receive back for guys like Jeffreis, Curry and even the newly adquired Al H.
5. US$ benefits on merchandise and marketing sales because of the status and names of the players involved.

P.D.
1. Add the 2nd round picks to whatever team feels uneven.
2. Even with Marion playing on SF, NY could sign Lebron who can be move to SG were he would become even more unstoppable ... can you imagine that ?

I think a lot of what Lordgohan is saying makes sense except I'd much rather give you Curry and Lee. You can just sign Steph for the Vet Exemp. when he gets released.

Take your lumps with Chalmers. He's going to be a stud.
