Rafael Furcal reportedly spent much of Tuesday in the East Bay as the A's entertained the free-agent shortstop and his wife, as well as his agent, Foxsports.com reported. The 31-year-old Furcal visited the Oakland Coliseum, had lunch with A's general manager Billy Beane and also spent time touring communities where he'd be most likely to reside if he decided to sign with the A's. Furcal's wife, Glenny, and his agent, Paul Kinzer, were also on Tuesday's tour.

A lot of teams would like this guy. Where's the Dodgers' offer.

Lot of teams would like Kenny Lofton too.

When he's healthy Furcal is as good a shortstop as there is. But he can't stay healthy. I would love for the Dodgers to keep him. But I wouldn't commit more than two years to him.

How many light-hitting shortstops does one team need?

November 26, 2008  11:05 AM ET

I never liked Furcal that much.... too up and down.... looks like a HOFer for a month.... then can't get on base or field a ball to save his life..... You need consistency at SS.....

It's funny..... Lofton is reviled in Atlanta..... yet one African American columnist with the AJC consistently writes positive articles about the guy..... while he was here he was an abject failure on the field and despised in the clubhouse.... the only other guy I can think of that was ever run out of Atlanta on a rail like Lofton was Dan Kolb.... you have to really work at it....

I don't know that I like this. Furcal can play well at times, but he's HORRIBLE at times, too. He didn't play well defensively in the NLCS and was part of the reason that the Dodgers lost. I also don't like seeing teams sign a latin player that claims to be in his early thirties. It almost guarantees that he's closer to 40 than 30. And I'm confused as to why the A's are spending now to get free agents when they could have spent some cash to KEEP some of the young talent that they already had/have.

He already got busted on this and had to adjust his age when he was in Atlanta..... so, his age is now actually accurate....

what is furcal thinking??? at least with the dodgers u have a shot at the play offs.... unlike the a's or giants!!!!!!!!!!!!

Daer Mr. Furcal - I hope you know if you go to the A's it's like being on the "graveyard shift" twenty four hours a day !!!

November 27, 2008  07:55 AM ET

His age may be closer to accurate, but I find it hard to believe that he's only 31. He looks older, and I knew that he was busted, I just don't trust any of it. Even if it is now allegedly accurate.

November 27, 2008  08:57 AM ET

His age is accurate.... his value is debatable....although I guess he had a pretty good run in LA.... I'm sure he will do quite well as a FA.....

What is your obsession with Kenny Lofton? He didn't play this year... you got him chained to your bed or something weird like that?

You are obsessed about an obsession.
