Scout: Brown's Bobcats' hardest to scout

I had to chuckle Monday night, listening to a friend describe how the Charlotte Bobcats' coaching change added to his workload. This guy is an advance scout for another Eastern Conference team. He says the Bobcats firing Sam Vincent and hiring Larry Brown changed them from the easiest team to scout to the hardest. The way this scout put it, Vincent ran the same 10 plays the same way all last season, so other than personnel, nothing much changed between scouting reports. Brown's plays expand and evolve by the week. A scout will hear a play called, think he knows what's coming, then realize the same call is now attached to a whole new play out of the same offensive set.

Why is this news. Everybody knows Brown is crazy.

November 26, 2008  08:28 AM ET

That's funny because their record does not show that they are hard to scout.

I like the idea of playing Augustin and Felton together. I know it was only one game but it looks like a good combo.

Play Augustin at the point, Felton at the 2 guard and look to find a taker for Jason Richardson. He will definitely be a guy that's going to be in Larry's dog house.

Well their record is 4-9. Whatever he's doing should be changed again.

playing augustin and felton may work against some smallballing team but they will have problems facing some teams with bigger backcourt. felton would be a good back up, he is more like jarrett jack than a tj ford. but i don't think he will like the idea of playing sub to augustin so i think it would be better to trade him than jrich.... let's say to the clippers where he can be packaged with morrison or a 2nd round pick for kaman.

Every where Brown has went except NY of course he has turned franchises around. He will do the same thing here if that fat head Michael Jordan doesnt trade a lottery pick for Kwame Brown:) give Brown a season or two max and the bobcats will be in contention. The roster he has now is a joke, Emeka will never be anything more then what he is right now. And to think people blasted Orlando for taking howard over this stiff..................

Wow, that is some genius reporting and coaching.

When T. Parker puts 4 fingers up with the ball at mid court, anyone with a brain can tell the play coming up yet so few teams can stop Tim Duncan from scoring or kicking the ball out for an assist.

My point is, it doesn't matter much in basketball if your opponent knows your strategy as long as you know your options and you can execute well. This is a non story.

Larry Brown is the winningest "loser" in coaching history.

There's no arguing with the fact that this Hall of Fame coach is a winner. He has an NBA ring, an NCAA ring, over 1000 victories, and 3 final four appearances. Yet, there's some things about him that really annoy me.

For instance: the fact that he won't stay put (in college or the pros), he's always looking for his next employer (even during the 2005 Pistons Finals Series), he won't play rookies, he screwed up the 2004 Olympic team, and he wants to be paid like a player (5 yrs - $60 mil to coach the Knicks).

I think alot of people feel the same-

look at him- he's a crotchey old man...
never happy, rarely smiling- that's Larry Brown
- he's not a rah, rah guy or even a guy that you
can be inspired by...he's MISERABLE

- some people are like that- no matter how 'good'
the situation is- he's unhappy/glass 1/2 full.....
that's why he wears out his welcome and always
seems to be on the move-

Still got to trade Richardson though and the only reason is that Jason Richardson thrives in a a free wheeling system. Larry Brown's structure will hurt his game and his psyche.

Yeah, I can see dealing Felton but J. Rich isn't a good fit with LB either.

November 26, 2008  07:07 PM ET

Larry Brown coaches basketball. Granted, he doesn't seem to have much shelf life, but he does seems to get a lot out of his squads. In particular, his job with the Pistons was pretty good. I'm not as old as Larry, but I appreciate that he's still working at the top of his profession past the age that many of us have just decided to stay on the porch.

November 26, 2008  07:16 PM ET

that's because Brown has Alzheimers and thinks he is comming up with it for the first time. and they are the Bobcats still so they need to be scouted?

November 27, 2008  01:51 AM ET

J-Rich should be traded for a center, and then move okafor to pf.

November 27, 2008  10:55 AM ET

larry brown is a good goach and an outstanding teacher.. it is not his fault that the talent these days are not respectful enough to give him a chance.. most players are not coachable anymore..they are all play for their own agenda's.. he took a talentless, Iverson lead sixers team to the finals.. he took a pistons team with no superstars, and a key addition Rasheed "F you" Wallace to the promised land.. the time out he called in Reggie millers last game so that pistons players and indiana fans could give Miller a standing Ovation, was the classiest move i've ever seen.. right up there with stopping the 1992 allstar game on magic's three... larry brown is great for the NBA
