Hoosier fans, team relieved
For the past few months, Indiana University basketball coach Tom Crean maintained the Hoosiers had punished themselves enough for the violations committed by former coach Kelvin Sampson and his staff. Tuesday, the NCAA Committee on Infractions confirmed Crean's belief when it announced IU would be placed on probation for three years but suffer no additional penalties. Reaction from Indiana and its fans was consistent, including those attending the EA Sports Maui Invitational. "This is just huge relief for everyone concerned," said IU basketball fan Lee Ann Borden, Brownstown, Ind. "I really thought it was going to be worse. I'm sure Indiana basketball fans are feeling a lot better today. And it's not just the fans but players and coaches and everybody. I think this is a big monkey off our backs."

This is a slap on the wrist considering IU hired Sampson while knowing he had done the same thing before and failed to monitor his actions.

This could have been worse. Im pretty happy with how this ended. Tom Crean will bring us back to national prominence within 4 years and IU faithful will be patient. This year will be almost unbearable to watch the games. But this is why they have Basil-Hayden on the rocks.

YEs i agree the ncaa got this one right with the penalty's already in place this team will suffer big time the next two years and it will take 4or 5 yrs to get back to national prominence so for the ones that say it was a slap on the wrist you are wrong.I do agree with others Crean will get us back

Listen dooshbag, if you have something to add then go for it, otherwise you're just taking up space. Enjoy the leniancy the NCAA gave you, either way your program is now irrelevant.

Dooshbag? Is that the best your little mind could come up with?I will add something you pathetic piece of crap!I know you are an Illini fan and as I've said before,I would be ashamed to be proud of that since you idiots enjoy throwing change at the parents of opposing players.I am glad we got rid of Sampson and just as glad we hired Crean. For you to say IU basketball is irrelvant now shows how much of an idiot you are.Crean is already bringing in top players and will make sure the program will be ran clean.IU will be a powerhouse again.Of course that's something an Illini fan can't relate to.Have fun rooting for a second rate program with a second rate coach and second rate fans.

That's what you don't understand, Indiana IS a second rate program. Stop living in the past, Knight is gone!

Second rate program? Of course, because second rate programs have the third most championships of any NCAA basketball team (and not all just with Knight by the way). Illini has HOW many? Oh, ya... zero.

Indiana is second rate?? wow.. I realize that people from Champaign do not get out much but come on.. how does one explain a top-5 recruiting class (while facing possible sanctions, fielding numerous walk-ons, and being picked to finish last in the Big 10) for a second-rate program? People are quick to forget how bad UNC was just a few years ago.
Go Hoosiers. Coach Crean is doing a great job.

That's funny. I recall making the Finals in the post-Knight era. Thanks for playing though!

And once you get your GED, you'll understand that it's "****" (not that you have any idea what that is, but I digress..) Calling the program irrelevant because of this season from hell (thanks, Sampson) is a bit of an exaggeration. Especially when you consider the fact that IU was easily a Final Four contender last year before the team imploded due to Sampson drama.
