LeBron's friend: Knicks are favorites in 2010

LeBron James' future will be debated and analyzed for the next 20 months. There are already whispers that the Knicks are the early leaders to land the potential free-agent-to-be in 2010. One person who may have intimate knowledge about LeBron's next move is William Wesley, a close friend and adviser to the Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star. Wesley is regarded as a powerful insider among the NBA's top players and executives, with connections to everyone from Michael Jordan to James. When asked during Wednesday's Knicks-Pistons game at Auburn Hills if he feels the Knicks are the favorite to sign LeBron in two years, Wesley smiled and said: "Barack Obama could use Donnie Walsh to clear salary-cap space for the country."

Friends can be a big factor for lebrons decision. Cavs might as well pay brons friend to stay with the cavs.

I hope Mr James stays in Cleveland. I just hope we don't have to put up with all the silly little rumers on where he is going for another year and a half.

This rumor is very believable.

Lebron already gave his farewell speech. He told Cleveland fans where ever he goes Cleveland will always be home. Many great players have come to New York and failed miserably so I know the competitor in him is surely interested to say the least. And don't forget the biggest factor MONEY! - Endorsement MONEY!

I'm sick of Lebron James, get the hell out of my city already since you seem to spit in our faces every chance you get. Take your yankees hat and your cowboys t-shirt with you.

This arsehole is the face of Cleveland and it seems like he goes out of his way to alienate the fans of other Cleveland Teams. Its one thing to wear that crap at the club or something. But how dare you come to a Indians playoff game against the yankees and insult us like that.

I hope he is a secret dog fighter like Vick or a drug smuggler, or a panty bandit so his career can be over as well.

Lebron James is a piece of Akron trash. And we know your mom couldn't afford that damn Hummer. The whole friggin state knew but we were down for you because we thought you were down for us. Loser.

Well I guess we're going to be inundated with this drivel for the next 2 years, but I believe that LeBron is smarter than he's being given credit for. Who in the hell is William Wesley, and why should we care what he thinks? LeBron is reported to have told the Knicks "If you guys want to go to sleep and wake up July 1, 2010, go ahead." Doesn't sound to me like an acceptance speech to me.

another new york speculation article by an extremely biased new york paper treated as front page, breaking news by the sports media.

its just getting utterly ridiculous with this regurgitation of the same exact speculation every other day of the week since the season started.

what's really funny is the angle that lebron is probably playing: getting all of these teams drooling over him so much that they are willing to sacrifice these next two years with horrible rosters. All its going to do is make winning a title in Cleveland easier for him if all the teams around him are getting weaker just so they can have a chance to sign him.

when 2010 rolls around i have a feeling that all of this bullsh*t being perpetuated by the New York Media and their loyally following of the national sportswriters is going to come back and bite them in the a**.

I mean to think that knicks fans actually think they have this good a chance is hilarious. Lebron says he wants to win championships, not become the next A-rod failure for you greedy new york ****.

November 28, 2008  08:33 AM ET

This notion that he has to go to New York for endorsements is just ridiculous. Michael Jordan never played in New York. Nor has Peyton Manning and for a while he was in almost every commercial on TV. Tiger Woods seems to do just fine and he never plays in NYC. Anna Kournikova came to New York for one tournamnet a year and was usually done by her first weekend of the US Open and she probably made more money than Evert, Graf and Navratilova combined.

November 28, 2008  08:40 AM ET

and as much as the idiot "journalists" claim that new york is the center of the nba they are just seriously delusional. The nba has drastically shifted away from new york. If anything LA and Boston are the centers of the nba right now with new york in a distant 20th place behind San Antonio, Phoenix, Dallas, Cleveland, Detroit and a host of other cities that have a bigger basketball following than New York does now.

New York's franchise is the disgrace and embarrassment of the league right now from the owner on down to is recently replaced head coach. If lebron were to leave cleveland for this seriously dysfunctional family he would flush any hopes of catching up to jordan down the drain. if he were to win in New York it wouldn't be for another 5-6 years while they do exactly what the Cavs are trying to do now by building up a team around him.

he would essentially be taking a giant **** on his championship hopes to goto new york, and he knows it. he was highly critical of how the knicks organization acted during the whole Isiah and Marbury mess, you really think he wants to become A-Rod?

November 28, 2008  08:49 AM ET

What is the big deal with New York anyway? The best teams are in LA, Boston, San Antonio and New Orleans? What do companies get just because LeBron plays in NY? They can market his shoes if he plays in OKC. This non story is making me scared just to look at NBA newspage. Enough of this nonsense.

November 28, 2008  09:09 AM ET

LeBron will go TO BULLLLS

November 28, 2008  09:17 AM ET

I guess this news isn't too shocking, given how dysfunctional the NBA is. What's next? A report saying that the games are fixed? Shocker!!

It's a miracle David Stern gets any sleep, given how corrupt his "league" is...

November 28, 2008  09:17 AM ET

New York is desperate to feel good about something, even if it's fantasy basketball and how great the world will be in two years.

November 28, 2008  09:20 AM ET

This is going to be a long two years, especially if everyday the New York media is going to talk about LeBron and New York.

A very long two years.

November 28, 2008  09:20 AM ET

As a Cavs fan, I'm getting tired of the whole thing. King James - this has gone to his head. He does not show respect to the fans, players or the organization. If New York wants to clear salary space for him - fine. Maybe he goes there and the team never recovers - and the Cavs pick up another free agent and prosper. They have a good team now. It would be tough without him - but maybe doable. Wouldn't that be sweet?!

November 28, 2008  09:25 AM ET

LeBron would be a big fool to go to the Knicks after all he said is that he wants to win multiple championships. How many does the Knicks have? 2? They don't know how to win. As far as money, how much more does he really need to make?

November 28, 2008  09:28 AM ET

This shouldn't be a story until 2010.
