Colt McCoy said he would like nothing more than to be a four-year starter at quarterback for Texas. But he also would like to know what the NFL thinks about him and his stock at the next level. McCoy, a junior, plans to file paperwork after the season to receive feedback from an NFL advisory committee. He would still retain his eligibility for his senior season. McCoy also plans to talk with Texas coach Mack Brown and director of football operations Cleve Bryant after the season.

His stock will never be higher that it is right now.

I figured one of this bunch would be looking. I know Bradford is only a sophmore so OU doesn't have to worry there. Is Harrell a senior?

November 28, 2008  09:02 AM ET

As much as I hate the Cowboys, it would be a shame that with a name like Colt McCoy he doesnt end up on the Cowboys.

November 28, 2008  09:26 AM ET

I completely agree with Sam Snead. Plus, looking at the sad state of America's economy, and the fact it will be much much worse in months to come, I don't blame a single college kid for presently pondering leaving school early to get that pay day as soon as possible. Who knows what will happen to our pro sports leagues in terms of contracts if the economy continues its downward spiral. Save your own financial futures kids. Prepare for a scary future now.

His stock is high. He's a little on the small side but he has an accurate arm and would probably do well in a West Coast offense.

He wont go to Dallas. No way with Romo there. Shame too....

Bradford is a red-shirt sophomore meaning he has the pre-requisite three years out of high school that makes him eligible for the draft.

I don't think he goes into the draft but he has the option to.

I say wait. The closer these kids can get to 2010 when the Collective Bargaining Agreement ends, the bigger contracts they're going to get. Agents all over the place are gonna look to secure big contracts with huge signing bonuses beacuse they're afraid of a lockout. Whether he gets that contract or not, if a lockout happens Mr. McCoy here is gonna wish he had gotten that college degree...

This is why I'm paying $85-$100 per ticket to see a game...are you a fan or a sports agent, mg? The bigger the contracts these unproven guys make, the more $$$ you pay to see a game.

Don't think he is a first rounder stay in school the nfl isn't going anywhere!

good point, but ticket prices are never going to go down. even if the players are making less, you really think that these owners will cut ticket prices down to where most people can afford them. i think not!

There are a lot of college QB's who would get selected before Colt McCoy. If he's not going to be a first day selection this time around, he should consider holding off until next year. Money isn't an issue when you're on a full-paid athletic scholarship.

The additional experience and the opportunity to increase his draft stock could pay out more money in the long-run. Also if he goes into the NFL before he's ready, he'd be out of the league within only a few years... and then have no college diploma to fall back on. That would actually be the riskier move considering the economy.

November 28, 2008  12:25 PM ET

He is so gone.....

November 28, 2008  12:28 PM ET

Don't worry too much about size. Top four passers in the league as of right now....

Kurt Warner, 6'2"
Drew Brees, 6'0"
Jay Cutler, 6'3"
Donovan McNabb, 6'2"

Dan Marino had a fantastic Junior year (37 TD) followed by a very disappointing (23 Int, 18 TD) senior campaign. Despite being drafted behind several other QBs, he still was selected 27th of the first round.

I think Colt will be hard pressed to go back for his senior year and do much worse than the 2nd round.

I dunno - he sounds like a Bronco to me... or, wait, make that Peyton's successor.

November 28, 2008  01:24 PM ET

It's obviously wise for him to consider his options. I don't really see him leaving though... he may end up being a good NFL QB but he won't have a 1st or 2nd round grade

I agree, it goes all the way down to middle school and high school programs and will soon effect the college levels. I saw a list of some of the companies that will be closing stores and shutting down after the 1st of the year. Senario: Do I spend $200.00 to go watch a bunch of well paid people PLAY a game or do I feed the fam.? The effect of the economy on sports hasn't been mentioned but it's coming!

November 28, 2008  01:49 PM ET

He would be one of the top 3 major college QBs taken. Daniels is too small, Stafford is having a horrible year, Reesing is so small he isn't being considered and Tebow has already been branded as a system QB. Graham Harrel will have to fight off that label as well since all of Leach's QBs put up crazy numbers. With good workouts Bradford and McCoy could be the first and second QBs taken.
