Padres find third team for Peavy deal?

Most intriguingly, in a late-Wednesday report by Yahoo.com, San Diego general manager Kevin Towers indicated he just might have come up with the elusive third team needed to perhaps facilitate Jake Peavy's deal to the Chicago Cubs. A third team is considered a requirement for that transaction because the Cubs on their own do not have the players for a package acceptable to the Padres.

Enough of this. Cubs don't need him.

This should be intresting to see how this rumor unfolds, as it has been reported that Lou said the Cubs were not looking to get Peavy....who knows????

Can we just get this whole Peavy ordeal over with, so part of the torture for Padres fan can be done with? And by the way, good point above, Cubsfanil. I was thinking the same thing. Believe nothing you read, see, or hear I guess.

Peavy will probably still be dealt, and I think the best fit is still the Braves. But we'll see...I hope he does not go to the Cubs. Peavy seems like a nice guy. I'd hate to see him choke along with the rest of the team every year.

Aren't you a Dodgers or Angels fan?

Red Sox why cant he just waive his no trade clause toward them.. Also who would be this third team. Why would they want the Cubs to get even better

First he prefers to stay in the NL and second the third team does not have to be a NL team and if they are that team may not be in the Central Division or may be totally rebuilding so they do not care what the Cubs do

The 3rd team will be the A's. The Cubs need mid relief. The A's need a quality starter. I can't say what the Padres need but the A's can give the Cubs what they need.

Will Towers continue creating the rumors keeping Peavy on the front burner?

The A's would do well to get in on this especially since Beane has a way of hording young players.

He's really made the grade.

Makes sense, since the Cubs dealt with Beane last year getting Harden, it could work.

i think its for that very reason it wont happen....

not i think its impossible...but Hendry is a different GM than most..he works for Lou more than Lou works for HIM...

im pretty sure Lou had a talk before that conference saying we dont need Peavy...im sure it will stick that way theeeen again anything is possible..

you still have to maybe think about the big unit and trevor hoffman though if ur thinking bout beefing up..two tall pitchers, strike em out guys, you got well..arguably one of the best in his time...and THE best closer in his time...why not?...and cheaper than peavy

November 28, 2008  02:45 PM ET

Yes, but on the flip side, Johnson would most likely be a one year deal. Peavy may come at a more expensive price. But we'd be getting a much younger pitcher and can lock him up for years.

Speculate all you want.... like FN.... this is just a continuing game of chicken with the Braves.... another leak from the Swap Meet....

Imagine the Cubs rotation of Z, Peavy, Dempster, Lilly, Harden....this would allow them to pull off a even bigger choke job.

On a side note I found this hilarious spoof of PTI I thought yall would enjoy

The Red Sox are a disgrace of a franchise. I don't blame him for not going there. 26-2!
