Will Burke blow up Leafs?

With Brian Burke on board, Tomas Kaberle might finally be convinced to waive his no-trade contract, while the same could be done with fellow defenseman Pavel Kubina. Nik Antropov and Alexei Ponikarovsky might have new addresses before the season is over. "We will see what happens," Antropov said. "He has a winning record and won the Stanley Cup. It's a great sign." But Burke, whose preference is to use North American-born players, won't try to jettison all of the Europeans. He did some finagling to draft both the Sedin twins for the Canucks in 1999, and had no trouble with Teemu Selanne and Sami Pahlsson in Anaheim.

I don't know if it will happen asap, but you can bet Burke will make several deals to put his stamp on this team (bye bye Euros) and try to make the Leafs tougher and nastier to play against.

Antropov, Ponikirovsky, Kaberle, Kubina will all be gone for futures or younger NORTH AMERICAN talent.

Come on Burkey!

I got the C4, he's got the detanator

Oh, he will blow .... something or other! Even the most hated midget ... when it serves his purposes!

Will Burke blow the Leafs? What kind of a headline is that?

November 28, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Correction! Burke's been blowing the midget all along! My mistake!

You can bet that there will be more Jeff Fingers in Toronto before too long.

Headlining the "Visuals we don't ever need" department.

I guess Burke is going to be pretty busy then.
How many players do we have? Plus all the upper management?

Seriously, at least Brian Burke is a no nonsense kind of guy who isn't afraid of the 'big bad spotlight' of Toronto. This team is in serious need of attention. For several years they have had nothing more then puppets for G.M's (thanks to the owners). I hope that Brian is allowed to control the operation without interference from the owners.

i guess this means bettman will be at his office in toronto more often..... im sure burke has a spare key too... and a cozy spot under the desk... and in a twist to spinys catch phrase

BETTMAN'S A D!CK and BURKE SUX....

Ferguson and Maurice or Wilson and Burke. This is a no brainer.

It's not about getting rid of Euros. Burke looks for a certain type of player for his teams and it just so happens that in the past most of those players have happened to be North Americans. Burke isn't trading or dropping anyone just because they're European. If a player plays the way Burke wants then he'll be on the team regardless of where he's from. Sami Pahlsson was one of Burke's favourite players in Anaheim.

I hope so. Then I can laugh even harder at the Laffs.

nah burkey wont be messing with the roster by jettin out the european guys., i think this league wouldnt be anything without diversity and i think burke has been around long enough to know talent, if he didnt think the leafs had something to offer, he would have just stayed took a cozy/hefty paycheck, to pretty much sit back and relax in anaheim, maybe this is the turning point that oputs our dynasty back in the forefront.
