Hansbrough, Thompson help ailing man

Tyler Hansbrough has always been known for his points and rebounds, but on Thanksgiving Day in Maui, North Carolina's All-American forward came through with a timely assist. After winning this week's Maui Invitational, the top-ranked Tar Heels were set to begin a long trek back to Chapel Hill, N.C., when their travel plans hit a snag. As American Airlines Flight No. 6 backed away from the gate, a passenger in seat 25C was discovered unconscious. When attempts to wake him failed, a flight attendant yelled for assistance from some "big, strong basketball players." Within seconds, Hansbrough had sprung from his seat six rows up and rushed to the man's side. Hansbrough, teammate Deon Thompson and video coordinator Eric Hoots then lifted 45-year-old Melvin Ridley into the air. Holding him chest-high, they carried him to the galley, where paramedics rendered aid for nearly 30 minutes. Once Ridley became responsive, he was removed from the plane and transported to a nearby hospital.

Yeah, the kid is a first class player and person. I cant wait until he graduates and is gone so that my Wolfpack dont have to face him anymore.

That kid's a winner at everything he does. It's a shame he has so many haters. Hate on a guy who does nothing but hustle his **** off nonstop. I'd say that anybody that hates on Hansbrough is a big time loser. Good job Tyler ! Keep doing it your way my man!!!

Just goes to show the Tarheels are a class act !!! Way to go fellas !!!

Tyler is a class act. The Tarholes are not. Let's leave La-La Land please.

The only thing I hate about College Basketball is hearing Tyler Hansbrough's name mentioned every 3 seconds....no matter who is playing.....and I'm conflicted, because I like to watch the Tar Heels play....but I hate how Hansbrough is being hyped up. I mean, the whole Tar Heel team is loaded...and all we hear about all the time is Hansbrough.

maybe because he deserves it. maybe because he is the hardest working player when hes on the court, maybe because hes a big reason they are so good. hyped up, riiiiiiiiiiigght. oh and wasnt he POY last year.............

December 2, 2008  05:53 PM ET

Everybody hates on "Psycho-T" because he is the best player in the country, and everybody loves him. He is definitely the hardest working player in UNC history. And after this year, when he becomes UNCs all time leading scorer.....the haters will have nothing on him. Also, JfwSooner, if you had been the one to help save that gentleman on the airplane.....you probably would have called CNN telling them you are a hero......

Best player in the country? Really?

He is a "hustle dork" - good player, no real skills.

I'm sorry, but this comment shows that you have absolutely no clue about basketball.

dropping 23 points and 11 boards, in 27 mins, no real skill there folks, just plain luck

December 5, 2008  05:37 PM ET

Why are people trashing this story anyway? Would we rather read about something good instead of reading about Plexico Burress shooting himself in the d@mn leg?? Or about Pac Man Jones punching his body guard?? Or, Chad Ocho Cinco changing his name?? Or the whole Starbury issue?? We finally have something good to read, and some stupid ****, decides he wants to talk ****?? That's kinda f*@ked up!!
