White Sox shopping trio

The White Sox should be one of the more interesting teams this winter, as they appear to be one contending team taking offers on some of their better players, including outfielder Jermaine Dye, closer Bobby Jenks and pitcher Javier Vazquez. Sox GM Ken Williams has historically been the most aggressive GM, and word is that he and manager Ozzie Guillen would like to make the team younger and faster. The Mets are a team that could use all three of those Sox players. However, talks with the South Siders have been slow. While the White Sox presumably have some interest in the Mets' top four prospects -- outfielder Fernandez Martinez and pitchers Jon Niese, Bobby Parnell and Eddie Kunz -- teams that have dealt with the Mets say the team from Queens is clutching tightly to them, leading to speculation they are more likely to fill their needs via free agency. While Jenks and Dye would help any team, the Mets don't appear to covet Vazquez, an innings eater who is drawing interest from other National League clubs. The Reds have shown an interest in Dye, and the report in WCKY in Cincinnati that a deal of hard-throwing pitching prospect Homer Bailey and another prospect for Dye was discussed has not been denied. Bailey's stock has to be down, but the Sox are one team that seems to be able to harness the talents of hard throwers (see Jenks and Matt Thornton).

I have a firm belief that anybody who can throw high 90s can close.

They don't need to rebuild, they need to dump a couple people. And not just anyone who can throw in the 90s can close. And your hating the White Sox is irrelevant SlinkyRedfoot.

November 29, 2008  11:53 AM ET

The Sox won 88 games and their Division.... why would you need to dismantle this team? Why don't you just come out and say that you want the Sox to sign Kenny Lofton?

November 29, 2008  02:43 PM ET

I don't think many teams would put up with Dye's defense, he is easily the worst RF in baseball, no legs no arm no range, just a bat. So that leaves only a few Al teams that have a use for him, that means very little trade value, which also means he stays in Chicago.
Jenks is not what he once was, it's a good time to dump.

Starting with that cry baby Ozzie. I swear I hate watching the news and always hear him cry about this, cry about his team, cry about that, cry that the news doesnt give the Sux as much respect as the Cubs get, his crying booty just needs to be gone...

Also those scum south siders...ekk.

I trust whatever Kenny Williams does. Remember before the 2005 season he traded Carlos Lee for Pdsednik and he helped us win a world series. Kenny is one of the top GMs in all of baseball.

You, generally speaking, are irrelevant.

I would like to add that one of the main reasons that I hate the White Sox is their Jerry-Springer-guest fans. Is that relevant?

November 29, 2008  04:39 PM ET

I am bored.

Either you live in TX or are a girls fan because you don't have a team in your state or are another bandwagon girls fan. Either way, you're probably a cubs fan, astros/rangers fan if you actually live in that s.h.it. state and if you do...go tip some cows, that's the real hobby out there heehaw!!
