Pistons guard Allen Iverson promises he won't miss practice again without permission. And everybody in the Pistons organization, from president Joe Dumars to coach Michael Curry, also expects Iverson to never repeat what happened Thanksgiving Day. The law has been laid down: nobody skips practice without permission, not even NBA All-Stars. verson blew off a mandatory practice Thursday morning, a frowned-upon move. Curry punished Iverson with a fine and removed him from his usual starting spot against the Bucks. Rodney Stuckey, who started in place of Iverson, had 12 points and four steals to help lead the Pistons to a 107-97 win over the Bucks. "I have no excuses," Iverson said about his actions. "I apologize to my teammates, first and foremost, the coaching staff, the organization and definitely, our fans. "It's something that shouldn't happen and it won't happen again." Dumars spoke with Iverson on Thursday evening about expectations. "He let me know how things are run around here and let me know it wasn't something that can continue to happen," Iverson said. "He let me know it was unacceptable." o why did Iverson miss practice? The Pistons played the night before Thanksgiving, throttling the Knicks 110-96 at The Palace. After the game, Curry called for practice on the holiday, mostly to work on conditioning. "It was a personal matter, but I just handled it the wrong way," Iverson said. "I didn't call and let them know what was going on. I talked to my teammates and they let me know they're still with me. And I let them know I'm with them. Its just a mistake, something that shouldn't happen." Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince said the players are satisfied with Iverson's explanation and apology.

AI is older and doesn't have the impact he used to. Teams are going to be less tolerant of this type of behavior. Besides freeing cap space at the end of the year the jury is still out on his contribution this year. Can you get the most out of Hamilton and Iverson playing together?

What I can't accept is Curry's plaid jacket. He must idolize Craig Sager...

November 29, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Why wasn't AI suspended for a game? Curry needs some balls. If it were one of the "scrubs" would the other players accept his absence? I think not!

November 29, 2008  12:09 PM ET

The only thing missing in Iverson's statements is any actual remorse.

Maybe you have a point that scheduling a practice under these circumstances wasn't the right thing to do, but first of all, while Curry may be inexperienced as a coach, he played the game for years and I'm sure took knew the players' perspective and took it into account; as for Dumars, he's a consumate professional - when he played, and as a GM - he's no fool. Remember, AI reports to them, not the other way around.

The bottom line is that Iverson is the fool - whether he liked it or not, it is his responsibility to be at practice. I sure hope you're not using what might have been poor judgement by the coach/gm as an excuse for AI. Enough with making excuses for these spoiled, entitled athletes.

Iverson wasn't the FOOL this time....You don't have conditioning during this type of HOLIDAY when the TEAM is OFF...Teams very rarely have off.....if this was PLAYOFF time it would be different

What kind of Organization would schedule a CONDITIONING DAY on Thanksgiving when Family is comes first...................PLEASE

I agree that scheduling a practice on a holiday is wrong. If Iverson wanted to spend time with his family he should have asked. All his teammates were at practice when they could have been spending time with their families and that was who he let down. He was right to apologize for handling it the wrong way.
