Blowout could be end for Weis
What once was considered proactive is now possibly thought of as an overreaction on the part of Notre Dame. Shortly after the epic battle between top-ranked USC and No. 9 Notre Dame in 2005, which USC won 34-31, the university extended coach Charlie Weis' contract through the 2015 season. The extension would prevent NFL squatters from swooping in and taking Weis back to the pro ranks, where he earned three Super Bowl rings as offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots. No one is likely knocking Weis' door down now. Weis' job security, which literally evoked smirks from Irish players a week earlier, has become no laughing matter. One media outlet reported that Weis would be fired upon the conclusion of the USC game, which would drop the Irish to 6-6 with losses in five of their past seven games. He has built zero relationships at the school," one source told the Chicago Tribune. "It has been all about him and his ego."

A TEN year extension? Is Charles Wang on the board of directors of the Fighting Irish? And what if the Irish win today, the article doesn't even seem to consider that possibility....how's that for hometown support.

This guy is just not a very good coach. Some people were born to be assistant coaches, not the Big Kahuna.
Go back to being an assistant Pork Chop. Life will be better for you and ND.

And they claim Notre Dame is a school for smart people... LMAO
What were they thinking? That a pompous blimp like Charlie Weis is God's gift to coaching? Please. THere are highschool coaches who know more about both football and leadership. Good luck Irish. The buyout is made even worse by the huge hit Notre Dame has taken on its endowment this year. Weis is scheduled to make more than every other coach, from Rockne to Willingham combined. What a waste.

Hook up the IV, more ND and CW. I needed that fix before heading to LA. His players are smirking at him ?........ he's lost all needed respect. Will ND quit like they did for the HS coach? I hope not. Not a good couple of weeks to be CW.

This is a clear example of an NFL guy who isn't college material. Just like how Pete Carroll wasn't NFL material but clearly is suited for College ball. Weis is meant for the NFL and not the NCAA.

ND thought they were doing the "smart" thing by locking Weis up in a nice contract because they were short sighted. They were going on one season and with a "near" win over USC. That, of course, was a stupid reason, but the school thought they finally found their answer to get them back to prominence. Clearly, they should have waited. But more power to Charlie. He duped ND into giving him money that right now he doesn't deserve.
The funny thing is, he's still able to get blue chip kids to come to his school to play for him.

While ND is attracting blue chip kids, they clearly aren't playing. They have learned to just show up.

I dont know who would want to come in and replace him. It's not as much fun to watch them loose now that it happens alot.

I am curious about one thing... Wasn't Weis the Pat's offensive coordinator.... When they were videotaping other teams signals???.... If that was the case... Then this guy's ego fooled him... Into thinking he could actually coach... Now that he doesn't have the luxury... Of knowing what the other team is doing before the ball is snapped... He is being exposed for what he is... Basically a fraud of a coach

ND is a big time program. As much as all of us like to see them struggling they have TONS of history. I have to give them that. Many, many coaches would like that job. Not sure about top 5 but I would say it is a top 10 job.

Some blame should go to the players. The recruiting is there and to be honest, these kids need to step up and play to their potential. I think the Coach is important but execution is key, fact is the kids aren't executing for their size and skill they should be a top 10 team.

As much as I want ND to win, I also must admit it when I see a problem. I spent many years in the military and know one thing about leadership....if you have someone not doing well, how long do you think it will be until dirt gets on you (Mr. Athletic Director?!!) Even more direct, Mr. College President?!! Admittedly, this is more frustration than fact because I am not an evaluator of college football coaching expertise. I am though, an evaluator of my own frustration in seeing a great bunch of kids at an even greater school get beaten every week by a group of usually inferior talented (though not always) kids. Pittsburgh and North Carolina were two teams we were more talented than and let them escape with wins. Syracuse was just pathetic...the kids just plain mailed it in and the coaches let them! I'm beginning to see the wisdom of Obama's slogan...change!!! At least with a new coach, we'll know exactly what the heck change it's going to be!

The jabronie on College Football Now said that [If ND doesn't beat USC] this will be Charlie's last game and he will be fired immediately after. I'm actually sort of shocked by how matter of fact this alleged journalist stated this to be fact.
Well I'm going to miss Charlie on the sidelines. Since his contract is so ridiculously over-inflated maybe they'll just make Weis the University President. Obviously they need someone better than the current moron to make better decisions than to offer a football coach a 10 year $40 million dollar contract.
