Liverpool is lining up a swoop for former Kop idol Michael Owen in January, a move that the England international is likely to favor ahead of offers from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Aren't we a little crowded up top rafa?

Do people actually pay any attention to soccer here in the USA? Oh wait, I guess my question has already been answered by the amazing response to this thread.

Owen would have to really compete to get playing time

another striker at Liverpool ??? I do not think so. with all due respect to Owen's prior history. Rafa is smarter than that. He is already hearing the complaints of Babel and others...

I love Owen, but this would be a mistake all the way around. Rafa won't do this, particularly with things going well. I also don't think it will happen because of LFC's financial crunch right now.

Too expensive especially with City in the running.

lol to peteo. Anyways, Liverpool doesnt need any more strikers. Get a stabilizing center back, especially since Carragher went down....already have Torres who is a handful by himself, and Kuyt. Bottom line: TOO EXPENSIVE

btw, I am a Man u fan, so I am not sure what I am doing replying to this....

Burgundy, my 3 yr old nephew spends alot of time verifying the accuracy of the stories for Goal.com and he would take offense to your comments if he knew how to read.

Watched Newcastle v. Middlesbrough this weekend...Owen played for 90 minutes and offered very little. He disappeared for long parts of the game.

With all the talent at Anfield (El Nino, Keane, Kuyt, Babel) why pay for Owen? Rafa won't waste the money this way.

Wow, you're a real rocket scientist.... Since the thread just started and it has been a holiday week, I would expect things to be a bit slower until Tuesday after everyone has caught up with work etc. But if you were around more often (this must be your first soccer post) you would note that some of the more appealing "T and Rs" in the "soccer" section have had a ton of responses and posts--including the typical boring, cliche garbage from people like you who like to say typical, boring sludge like "Americans don't like soccer." Regardless, I personally wouldn't make a silly, grand assumption based on a T&R about Michael Owen being traded to Liverpool--but of course, I'm not a walking-breathing cliche who makes assumptions about a whole sport based on one T&R thread either. But I do know people who are....

I think Liverpool should play a 3-2-5. Yeah, with Owen they could play 5 strikers up front! Ridiculous. I really hope Rafa doesn't do this. And why doesn't Newcastle do anything to keep him there... He's contributed so VERY little since being there. This story must be hogwash!
I can see it now, 5 strikers: Keane, Torres, Owen, Kuyt, Babel. Heck, maybe even the midfielders could be modified strikers and he could play N'Gog and Nemeth at midfield (the "2") and move Gerrard all the way back to CB! Who needs anything but strikers and a goalie on a team! Play 11 strikers!

If Rafa makes this move, he's lost his mind.

seeing as a rumor about Owen's departure has been common ground for the past month, i show little to no interest in this story...

but assuming you are merely a troll, i doubt you really understand where im coming from...

NOT OWEN RELATED:

Bernardo will be loaned out this January by Napoli..... his agent claims they have many many MANY teams interested.... 2nd division spain and germany.... EPL and league Championship in england.... surprisingly no Serie B teams..... But Napoli is claimed to put an "incentive" clause that would REQUIRE Bernardo to get Playing Time....

December 1, 2008  12:59 PM ET

Speaking of Napoli - that was a nice win over the weekend...but then again, it helps with Ronaldinho misses a penalty.

December 1, 2008  01:41 PM ET

zizou- Palermo out played ACM.... i laughed all 90 min:D

December 1, 2008  01:55 PM ET

LOL...shows you how much I was paying attention!
I even DVR'd the game!
My bad, my bad.
