Sheets drawing little interest
Rarely hear Ben Sheet's name mentioned. Other than a push by buddy Roy Oswalt to make him an Astro, there doesn't appear to be much action on this high-risk (and sometimes high-reward) righthander. Sheets could wind up going back to Milwaukee, but even the Brewers, who have experienced all of his injury history, might be leery without protection in his contract.

Not true-
Sheets started 221 games since 2001, Burnett 195
Sheets has 4 years of 200 innings (last year 198 I'm counting)
Burnett only 3
And sheets started 31 games last year, Burnett 34-
BOTH are injury prone guys-
But don't tell me Burnett is 'less' ...
don't forget last year was his 'option/walk' year-
I find it very suspicious that his one healthy year is
when he can maker $$$

The difference at least to AL GM's is Burnett has proven he can pitch in the AL East. Perhaps Sheets could be as effective as Burnett but AL East teams have been burned so many times paying premium contracts to NL pitchers who get lit up or injured. Hence the absurd numbers being thrown about regarding Sabathia.

Ben Sheets goes 11-10 every year, and has never won more than 13 games in a season (last year). The guy hasn't thrown more than 200 innings in a season since 2004. He has 4 career shut-outs, because he can't get you more than 6 innings (too many pitches to get there and a fragile arm). He's 29 now, so it is time to quit talking "potential" and saying, "if he can stay healthy. . . . " I like the guy, but he oughta get 3rd or 4th starter money, rather than staff ace money, which is what it's rumored he's asking. I think you can find a guy for the minimum who can get you 11-10 with the Brewers' line-up. And if you can't, at least you're not out $100 million.

Sheets is good when he is on, but he has never really reached his full potential of being a staff ace.

Jason Marquis is capable of 11 or 12 wins and 200 innings a year at 8-9 million per year. I don't think he's ever had any major injuries and if a team could put up with his arrogance, he'd be a good fit. If the Cubs find him expendable, he could be packaged with someone like Pie or Cedeno to get a good speedy leadoff hitter.

Oswalt should become an agent with all the pitchers he's trying to talk into coming to Houston. First his hunting buddy, Jake Peavy, now his buddy Ben Sheets, who's next Andy Pettite?

Be careful there Cubs fan, there's a reason the A's gave you Rich Harden, If ever there was a brilliant, fragile arm you now own him.
