White Sox want more for Dye deal
White Sox right fielder Jermaine Dye fits so well with a few teams, including Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, and the Mets. Dye was a player the Red Sox were hot after before pursuing J.D. Drew. The Rays are trying to deal the back of their starting rotation - Andy Sonnanstine or Edwin Jackson - for a power-hitting righthanded bat, but the White Sox would want more.

hard to say dye needs to go considering his numbers. usually you need to refer to konerko or thome when talking about how the white sox need a makeover.

Agreed. Dye is way more productive than Thome and Konerko and should thus stay. However, neither Thome nor Konerko have a high trade value and are old and slow.

Dye is getting up there as well- he's 34
( do agree with you though)

but he still has speed and some pop in that bat, Konerko and Thome both should go even if the Sox get some minor leaguers for them.

It's funny you should say that. I was just reading an article on Sports Illustrated earlier about sluggers and stolen bases, and it went through and listed some of the worst runners in baseball history. And the writer quotes Jermaine Dye and saying it's hilarious that pitchers always throw over to first base when he's on because people just assume he's fast even though he's very, very, very, very slow. He has 46 career stolen bases, with a career high of 11 in a season, over 13 years. Which is an average of about three to four per year.
I guess people see an in shape, slender, athletic man who plays a sport successfully on a professional level and just assume he can run fast.

To say Konerko and Thome should be traded for minor leaguers is insanity. Thome hit more homeruns then anybody on the cubs roster last year. Konerko, when he finally came around, played great ball. Now having said that, I would of rather seen Konerko traded rather than Swisher. We have Thome one more year. After that I would say Dye would be our DH. I cannot see the Sox trading Dye any time soon.

What I meant was that if they are looking to unload and go younger like the reports are saying, if they looked to get rid of them, they should be able to get some decent minor leaguers...never said that they should dumped these two guys

Konerko is at 1B this upcoming year after Swisher was dumped. Odd man out is either Dye or Thome.

Instead of trading Dye, they should be trading Konerko and Thome, and rethinking their plans without Crede.

Swisher was the odd man out and he was traded. There are positions available for the other three. Thome's contract is up after this year. Keeping Dye around seems the logical choice. He will be the DH after this year.

I agree with trading Dye, as long as we don't get fleeced like we did for Swisher. he's 34, and due for a regression. Now is the time to sell high on him. If we can get a decent 5th starter for him, we'll have a pretty beastly rotation.
Konerko is younger than Dye, and is the heart and soul of this team. Trading him will give us a bad vibe in the clubhouse, and 2007 proved how damaging those vibes can be. Not to mention that, as a 10-5 player, Konerko can veto any trade anyway, making it harder to move him.
Whos gonna trade for Thome? And anyway, as long as we have good contact hitters in front of him he can still be effective. The problem last year was that he was often at the dish with no one on base. The opposing team could shift on him, and they didn't have to challenge him with fastballs. If we get a few OBP guys to hit ahead of him, Thome will become much more fearsome.
I love JD and would hate to see him go, but he just makes the most sense.

If they can get Jackson from Rays I'd make that trade right this second, you heard it here 1st Jackson will be one of the best starters in majors next yr.

I really hope they trade Konreko over Dye. I agree that Dye still has some speed and I think he has one good season (may be 2) left in him.
Konerko is probably the slowest player in major leagues. How a professional athelete can be so slow is baffling. And he takes about 4 months of the season to get going. Can't have that.
Classy guy, but I'd gladly trade him.

unfortunately only sox fans and players know how good the guy is. he doesn't talk smack...his mug is never in the papers(cept for trade rumors)...he's worth probably twice as much as they'll get for him. real shame. class act and whomever gets the guy is getting a very valuable veteran and good clubhouse presence

I think Bengi Molina might be slower, but yes, Konerko is slow. I would hate to see Konerko go because of what he has done for the Sox for the past several years. However, tis a business, and even if one wears a 'C' on their jersey, they are subject to the numbers game.

What do you mean who's gonna trade for Thome. I'm not saying we should trade him, but I think the market would be pretty good if he were on it. He can still crank out 30 some homeruns from the Left side of the plate. But there are no teams that would want somebody who can do that. Also I between Konerko and Dye, Dye has more value. Why would you trade Dye if you could trade Konerko. Paulie just has not been getting it done on a regular basis. I think this team has alot more heart and soul that you give it credit for. While I think Konerko is great. If it is a choice between him or Dye, why would you not want the more consistant bat in the lineup. Personally, I don't think either will be traded any time soon. There are not too many teams willing to part will excellent young pitching.

yup... one of the thing that's concerning about Konreko is his notorious slow starts. Also, when he goes into a slump, they are excruciatingly long and looks as if he takes forever to get out of those slumps.
