White Sox-Reds deal in doubt

A major-league source said Sunday any deal involving right fielder Jermaine Dye and Cincinnati is complicated by financial matters. Dye, who has hit 137 home runs in the last four years, will earn $11.5 million in 2009, with a mutual option for $12 million in 2010 that includes a $1 million buyout. Reds general manager Walt Jocketty confirmed to the Cincinnati Enquirer that he had talked to the Sox about "some players, but nothing is close." The teams appear to be a match because the Reds are looking for a right-handed hitter to go with young left-handed hitters Joey Votto and Jay Bruce, and the Reds have a wealth of talented pitchers, including Homer Bailey, Josh Roenicke and Matt Maloney. The Sox also need a catcher to back up A.J. Pierzynski, who has caught at least 1,000 innings in each of the last seven seasons.

Um..........another out of the no where trade.....Didnt see this one come from any source. The second Time Dye`s name has been talked about in a trade this week? Have tooo how the drama plays out with this one.

whattt ???? You mean to tell me that your japanese sources had nothing about this ?????/
what is this world coming to when japanese sources dont report nothing about jermain dye .

Jocketty always says he is talking to people, but nothing is close. With Walt, that usually means that something IS close.

Reds and SOx have a history with the dealing of Griffey, if the Sox do trade Dye hope they do get something worth while.

Well if you know how the Soxs mangement is they might get a nice young pitching arm

Maybe they should take a look at that faigala you're humping in your avatar.

If the Sox do trade Dye, then they better get a lot for him...seeing as how he was the most consistent bat for the Sox last year. It better not be a "this for that" trade like the Garland/Cabrerra trade last year, where the sox basically got a rental player at short stop. I would much rather see Konerko or Thome before Dye, but i dont see that happening.

All i can say is that this is looking to be a very interesting off season for the sox!

It would help if Kenny Williams understood math!

I'm sure Ken Williams knows math, he is a good GM. It would be a shame if Dye went. Williams should only accept pitching for a player like Dye. I also think Cabrera should be resigned (which won't happen) and Ramirez stays at second base. Chris Getz is not MLB ready to play at second, and who knows what kind of shot Ken Williams has at signing Orlando Hudson, as has been rumored.

December 1, 2008  04:28 PM ET

What Ken Williams should do is finally pull the trigger on Chone Figgins, who would fill the 3B vacancy and lead off. That would only happen, probably, if the Angels could not sign Teixera (don't know correct spelling), and needed a 1B, hence Konerko. There is no way in Hell Dayan Viciedo is starting at 3B next year, and the Sox lack a lead off hitter.

take freel, bailey, and matt belise. anything to get the last two out of here. as for chodanutz, we dont need another first baseman, votto is better than either of them

Dye has been the most consistent Sox player for years. Getting rid of him would be a huge mistake for Kenny Williams...unless Ozzie Guillen saw some signs of wear and tear at the end of last season that the normal person wouldn't see. Dye for any Reds pitcher except Aaron Harang would be a bust of a deal.

Dye is not going anywhere. I can see the Sox letting him go anytime soon.

The White Sox don't have a lot of players that other teams want. They were lucky to make the playoffs this year. They won't be lucky next year.

Ah yes, you know this with your vast foreknowledge.
