Plaxico laughs off gun arrest

Plaxico Burress was laughing and grinning Sunday night about shooting himself in a midtown nightclub - even as cops planned Monday to file gun charges against the Big Blue superstar. Cops recovered the Giant receiver's unlicensed handgun from his New Jersey mansion - and will charge Burress today at the 17th Precinct stationhouse. The 31-year-old will be walked into the midtown stationhouse like any other perp, police sources said. Burress' reaction to all this? He laughed. "He called me laughing and grinning," fellow New York Giant Brandon Jacobs told reporters. "He is doing fine. He is feeling good. I called him and made a few jokes about the situation and he laughed - which is what I wanted to hear. "He shouldn't be down because it is a mistake that happened," said the running back. It's a mistake that could cost Burress dearly, despite his lawyer's vow that he'll plead not guilty to charges of criminal possession of a weapon. For the first time, his bosses at the Meadowlands hinted that his career as a Giant could be in jeopardy.

He's a chump thug wanna-be. So full of crapola. And guess what....the Giants - DO NOT need him. He's a dis-illuioned child of his surroundings. Like so many others. What a ****.

December 1, 2008  06:12 AM ET

Toool. He ain't too bright of a person.

December 1, 2008  06:24 AM ET

"despite his lawyer's vow that he'll plead not guilty to charges of criminal possession of a weapon."

Can't wait to here how Burress's lawyer will spin this.

December 1, 2008  06:27 AM ET

Sorry Plax, felony gun charges are no laughing matter.

December 1, 2008  06:31 AM ET

His laughter will soon turn into tears because the Commish will have his ****. Probably an eight game suspension even more if he is convicted.

December 1, 2008  06:42 AM ET

I love how these players refer to felonies as laughable measures. Well, mandatory sentences are nothing to laugh about, and I am so glad that his teammates are happy he is able to laugh off the situation. NYC is the wrong city to commit this kind of crime in. Unlike the Giants players, they take this particular felony extremely seriously.

He will cry his crocodile tears in due time, probably to Goodell, to try and not get suspended. He'll then realize that it is serious when his contract gets torn up and he loses 25+ million.

Burress will get suspended, Antonio Pierce will probably get suspended as well. He took the illegal weapon, that he knew was illegal, across state lines to hinder a police investigation. So, he was in possession of an illegal weapon as well. Pierce may actually be in worse shape than Burress at this point. For those who may not agree with that point, ask the Nixon administration what was worse, the Watergate crime, or the Watergate cover-up.

December 1, 2008  06:46 AM ET

Hey Plax, you aren't the only person in America laughing at you right now.....

December 1, 2008  06:46 AM ET

gahook, Pierce probably will receive some kind of suspension or fine by the league but no way is he in more trouble than Burress. Pierce came clean as soon as the alcohol wore off and contacted his lawyer and has cooperated fully since then. I'm sure he will be it with some kind of slap on the wrist but nothing serious. I'm from NY so I do agree this is the wrong place to have a gun charge.

December 1, 2008  06:55 AM ET

Keelee24, I don't think a judge will say: "Oh, you came clean after driving being intoxicated? You may leave." Hey, he is part of this felony. Here is what he did:

1. Knowingly trying to hinder a NYC police investigation by removing evidence from a crime scene.
2. Drove while intoxicated. This one can't be prosecuted, but will be taken into account.
3. Possession of an illegal, unregistered weapon in NYC.
4. Transporting said illegal weapon across state lines.

I don't think a "slap on the wrist" will come into play. Both are in serious trouble. Plus, if either has any crime history this will get a lot more serious in a hurry.

December 1, 2008  06:57 AM ET

Almost forgot, Brandon Jacobs, you are an idiot if you are happy he is laughing about it. I'm guessing Brandon Jacobs, since he refers to this as a "mistake", must not realize that it is actually serious to possess illegal weapons.

Guns,clubs,early morning.
I see a pattern.
It's the Gangsta mentality.
They want to be like their uneducated rapper super heroes

December 1, 2008  07:13 AM ET

The ultimate insult to injury. I don't want to see armed thug-athletes anymore than the rest of us... but isn't it enough that he shot himself?

The whole purpose of the law is to correct people when they are out of line. I'd have to assume that a gunshot wound would teach him more than a fine.

a WR that drops his gun and shoots himself. sounds like a situation comedy plot that only seinfeld could make funny..

December 1, 2008  07:20 AM ET

laughs at the cops and them charging him?

Another prime example of the NFL's role model du jour.

Unlicensed is the key word Mr. Burress. Nothing to laugh at really, if your dumb **** had taken the time to get a license to carry concealed...maybe then we could all share in a laugh at your incompetent ****.

But no, you are another player that feels you need to wear $50k worth of "bling" and must protect that in any way you can. Regardless of the law.

At some point the police are going to make a very very big example out of one of the NFL goons, better hope its not this time.

A gunshot wound to this man is likely a trophy scar, I would love to hear the **** story he will give people in 5 years about it.

Boot him from the league Roger.

December 1, 2008  07:21 AM ET

a.nomaly, nope, it isn't enough that he shot himself. If he is laughing, do you think he actually learned anything? There are mandatory sentences for felonies, which he committed, and these should be carried out if they are the law.

He was in possession of illegal weapons. He transported illegal weapons across state lines. He had a loaded illegal weapon in a public place. Just because he screwed up and shot himself does not mean justice has been served. People can't serve justice upon themselves, that is why there is a court system. They are the only ones that can meter out justice.

Let's let the courts decide how serious this is based on NYC law.

December 1, 2008  07:26 AM ET

Plaxico [ Is he named after a fungus?] is gonna laugh himself right out of football if this tool won't get his act together. Does he think nothing is going to come of carrying an unregistered handgun. Some of these players think their above the law and everyone else. Hope he gets jail time in a nice little cell with some big **** where he can really catch some balls.

December 1, 2008  07:43 AM ET

Just for the record those asteriks they censored my above comment were for a slang to describe someone who enjoys same sex woo woo. Not the n word. I guess you can't say **** on here.

December 1, 2008  07:44 AM ET

So, if I hurt someone else and myself by drunk driving, I shot go scott-free because I may have learned a lesson? No way! He'll will (and rightfully so) swing for this one.
