Gators star uncertain for SEC title game

Florida coach Urban Meyer still isn't sure if star receiver-running back Percy Harvin will play in Saturday's SEC championship. He does know, though, that Harvin won't be practicing as the Gators prepare for Alabama. Meyer said he will hold out Harvin, who sprained his right ankle in Florida's 45-15 defeat of Florida State Saturday, for the team's initial practices this week. If Harvin can't play, Meyer said that he would be replaced by returner Brandon James and running back Jeff Demps, among others.

Demps and Rainey. They will be fine.

Mickey Andrews is an ****. He has hurt Gator players before with his malicious defenses, and that's all that FSU can muster. Just like the "late hit" of 1996 before Wuerffel had his revenge on FSU in the Sugar for the national title, the Gators will persevere!

And, the concern about Harvin is not just his running game mobility; he's the best receiver at Florida!

Louis Murphy is no substitute, and Alabama knows it.

December 1, 2008  11:22 AM ET

with the likes of louis murphy and deonte thompson the receiving corps will be fine, rainey and demps did more than fill the void left by harvin (scored more points with him out than in) and if brandon james is 100 percent then they will be fine, best to let harvin rest and go from there if he's not at least 90% DON'T PLAY HIM.

Alabama is going to have their hands full if they do not play tight, bump and run coverage. Zone defense will not work against Florida unless there is tremendous heat on Tebow.

That being said, Alabama is superior on both lines and should be able to control the ball with their offense. However, I still think it will take at least 31 points for them to win this game.

The hit looked pretty legit to me.

With that said, Florida has got enough talent to spread around. Also, what's similar about James, Demps, and Rainey? They all play RUNNINGBACK or return man in the regular season. It'll be interesting to see how Florida is able to operate without their versatile WIDERECEIVER (sorry for the caps, I can't embolden anything).

If the Gators can force Bama to put 8 in the box and get them out of nickel, they're toast. Tebow will throw for 300+ and we'll win going away. If not, it will be a grinder that I hope we have the ball last.

It all depends on Dan Mullen. We have the weapons for sure, but if Dan calls a game similar to Michigan or Auburn last year, we won't have much of a chance against Bama's D. The one knock on Mullen is that if you take away one aspect of his offense and you press him elsewhere, sometimes he doesn't know what to do. We need to mix it up against the Tide and go deep often to keep their d-backs occupied. Even with Harvin out, Demps, Rainey our Defense and the best QB in the nation will keep us in the lead early.

He definitely brain-farted against my left Nutt. Ole Miss has an above average defense, but Mullen's choice play calling kept them in the game.

Hopefully a lesson learned because Bama's D is much better than Ole Miss and harder to read at the line.

snead threw a pick at the 40 or so while ole miss was on a drive for the go ahead/winning drive and only lost to bama' by 3 so I wouldn't say that bama's d is "much better" than ole miss. not to mention that ole miss is only 4 plays away from being undeafeated and number 1 in the country.

correction by 4 to bama

Bama is better at EVERY defensive category than Ole Miss. The only D in the SEC that matches is ours.

Should be a game probably better than tha national championship game. Florida does have other weapons but Harvin is the choice guy. I expect the receivers to step it up and Tebow will step it up also. You can see Tebow becoming more engaged each game. He was a monster against FSU. John Parker Wilson and Alabama has nothing on Tebow and crew.

That high ankle sprain is one of those injuries that stays with you for a while. I dont think Harvin will play...and if he does....he will be a step slower....which will make him only 3 steps faster than anyone else on the field.

Demps has speed, but Harvin is the total package....and in my opinion...is the best offensive player in the NCAA. I know many of you have a man crush on Tebow....but Harvin is the heartbeat of the Gators.

Florida could win this game with Charlie Weis coaching them. Saban must be living a blessed life-- one of the easiest schedules in football and then when he gets smoked by Florida it'll be another cupcake in the Sugar Bowl-- Utah or Boise St. It's just not fair to the teams that actually worked this year like Texas, USC and the other 15 1-loss teams that get shut out of the big game because college football isn't based most heavily on opinion rather than competition.

Sandy Underpants finally gets one right.

Oh, get over it. Alabama is an amazing team this year. The amazing thing is Saban and his ability to win with just sufficient talent in the college game. He finds the strengths and goes with them - in this case defense and the running game.
