Big 12 to rethink tie-breaking rules
The Big 12 will consider changing its tie-breaking procedures after this season's three-way deadlock in the South between Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech, commissioner Dan Beebe said Sunday. The Sooners won the tiebreaker on the basis of being the higher team in the BCS standings. "The tiebreak process currently in place was carefully considered and voted upon by our athletics directors years ago, although I doubt they envisioned the scenario we have this year with a tie including the No. 2 and 3 teams in the country in one of our divisions," Beebe said in a statement. "The use of the BCS standings is one of multiple steps used and occurs when other steps in the process are unable to break the tie. As part of our season review, other tiebreak options will be assessed, and presented for consideration." Texas coach Mack Brown had suggested using a model like the Atlantic Coast or Southeastern Conferences, which use the BCS only to eliminate one team and then shifts to head-to-head competition.

The headline UT fans (and the rest of us) were hoping to see was "College Presidents realize how greedy they are, Div. I Play-off System to be installed".

the BCS got it right this time folks, no denying that they put the BEST team in and the ugly step sister out. kudos go out to UT and their fans they had a heck of a season i'll tell u what, but its just our time AGAIN! we have so many BIG 12 titles we're running out of space to put them. if Fla beats Bama by say only 3 points they probably wont jump UT and it'll be OU/TX rematch for NC which is what i would love to see. Texas fans belly ache and complain about it but i guarantee that if we were to meet up again OU would be favored to win the game case closed!

Once again Mack Brown crying up a river. If anyone should be able to complain it's Texas Tech. If Oklahoma loses the Big 12 championship game, Texas is going to the NC game. Texas Tech beat Texas and they have the same record. That's bull if you ask me. Texas Tech beat Texas, why should Texas go ahead of Texas Tech?

Yes, Texas Tech beat Texas on a phenominal last second play at home, with Texas playing the last of four top 11 teams in four weeks. Texas Tech got humiliated in front of a national audience on the road and gave up. Tech had a great season, but that loss automatically drops them from BCS title game consideration.

Maybe the Big 12 Commissioner will now be FOR a playoff of some sort instead of AGAINST it. They get what they deserve.

Well when Missouri beats OU, atleast people won't whine as loud when Texas goes to the NC game without winning their conference.

It was a mistake to put it in the hands of the BCS but Texas still has a shot at the title game. It's a small shot but a shot nonetheless.

What a joke. Head 2 head can never be brought up again since the dunces just threw that out this year. TX spanked OU and OU gets to go? A Joke.

If Mizzou wins, UT will still be left at the alter. USC will jump UT and play for the NC. I know it is hard to understand, but you actually lost to Texas Tech. It doesn't matter that it happened at the end of the game, nor the fact that you didn't lead OU until the middle of the 4th quarter.
OU made it on strength of schedule, pure and simple. Using Bill Snyder's method to schedule four cupcakes at the beginning of the year obviously isn't going to get you in.

Sure head to head can be brought up. Texas lost to Texas Tech head to head.
How do you get to discount this fact because they lost to another team?
The simple fact that you want to use head to head in one instance and not in another is just non-sensical circular logic.

They lost to Tx Tech on the road and on the last play of the game, OU lost to TX on a neutral site and it wasnt on no last second play. They were soundly beaten by 10 points.
You do know that almost every other conference, TX would be the team advancing with their tiebreaker system? Thats why the BIG 12 will be changing their rules because theres no way OU should be going instead of TX.

You know that if Texas was in the same situation that Oklahoma was in they would be singing a different tune. Everyone loves the BCS when it benefits them, but when it dosen't they cry that it is unfair. Suck it UP Mack! You are a coach in the Big 12. Not a third grader!

Ok Tech beat UT by 6 and UT beat OU by 10. On the "head to head" theory Texas should be going to the Big 12 Champ. OU has little bit of an edge on SOS but only by 4 spots. So as far as cupcake schedule for either of these two teams makes no sense in arguing about(OU#1 and UT#5). You could argue The Tides SOS(#88).

I doubt it. The precedent has been set the last two years for a higher ranked team who didn't win their conference to be leapfrogged by a team who did win their conference. The SEC champion will go to the title game, and if Mizzou somehow knocks off the Sooners, look for USC to jump Texas.

I think OU would be moaning the same way Texas is if it was them. You can't tell me Stoops wouldn't ne up there pushing for a different system and touting the way his team has dominated over the last few weeks. To me, they both are deserving. Shame. I wish they could play again on neutral field again, winner take all! The one team that should not deserve to go is Florida. They lost at home to an unranked team, you should immediately have no consideration. OU lost to a top 5 team and Texas lost to a top 10 team on the road on the last play. Man Baylor almost won that game and it really would have gotten ugly. But the BCS and NCAA is getting exactly what they want, everyone talking about it! Bradford cemented his Heisman trophy win as well, but colt was deserving too. Sucks for one of them. All I know is Mizzou is gonna get spanked with that lousy defense.

No way USC should be able to jump, once again lost to an unranked team!
