In a rare interview last month, Lufkin, Texas, defensive tackle JaMarkus McFarland told Rivals.com that he would decide between Oklahoma and Texas. Judging by McFarland's travel schedule last weekend, one more program may have worked itself into that mix. McFarland visited USC for the Notre Dame game, meaning three top-five schools are competing for the services of the nation's top-ranked defensive lineman. Lufkin coach John Outlaw raved in an interview before the season about McFarland's dedication on and off the field. McFarland is an excellent student, and, as Thayer Evans of The New York Times wrote, he is a master of the Blue-Light Special.

How many SongGrils does it take to score the top defensive linemen out of Texas?

December 2, 2008  10:26 AM ET

Well, he did say he might go to Florida or Southern California just to travel. He may be using his five official trips (He's already been to LSU, Texas, and OU) so good for him.

Blue-Light Special ? Isn't that used in the context of getting something CHEAP for an even cheaper price at Kmart. How does that have meaning here? Help me......

December 2, 2008  12:39 PM ET

He would come in and comPETE right away...

December 2, 2008  12:47 PM ET

JaMarkus would be a great addition to our young and talented d-line. Go get him PC!

Yeah...what is exactly does that mean?

I am sure that Sneaky Pete already has the wallet ready and the house for him to stay at. Reggie Bush probably knows a good sports marketing group that he can sign with and all those rappers and movies stars can chip in too. Do not act like Pete Carroll is a great coach, how can you not win at USC? Top three class every year. Still lost to my Longhorns even though USC was wayyy better. Bad coaching. No reason that team should lose to a non-ranked team ever.

Go to Hollywood! Swimming Pools and Movie Stars....USC should hire Matt Lienart as a recruiter, Party like a Frat Star! LOL

December 2, 2008  04:40 PM ET

Why not go to USC? If I was a recruit all they had to do was show me where the Song Girls practice and change.

I'd sign right after all that.

Piranha....ASSuming again....you only want that to be true. I am sure you are a bit pissed that OK jumped your beloved TX and their only chance is to pray that they lose to Missouri. Karma is a **** huh? I am sure the Cal fans are enjoying this one.

Didnt TX lose to unranked Kansas State and Tex A&M the last several years? Never accuse another team of something your team does also......

December 2, 2008  07:12 PM ET

No big deal....Pete is just trying to reload for the next several seasons....

I think USC is 34-2 vs ranked teams in the last 6 years and 5-1 in 6 consecutive BCS Bowls. Since no other program and no other coach has EVER accomplished anything close to that (not even close), then I think that makes him "great", but you're a dummy so you aren't expected to know greatness.

he would be a big addition to the d for the next upcoming seasons, get'em pete!
