Sources indicate that Utah's Kyle Whittingham is among the favored candidates to replace Ty Willingham. But he might be hard to pry away from Salt Lake City. Utah athletic director Chris Hill told The Salt Lake Tribune in a story for today's paper that he has met with Whittingham about a possible contract extension. According to the paper, Hill stopped short of saying actual contract negotiations were under way and refused to put a timeline on when he wants the negotiations to be finalized. The Tribune reported that Hill also declined to discuss Whittingham's future at Utah or the possibility other schools could be after him. The paper said Whittingham also refused to comment on the rumors regarding Washington. However, according to The Tribune, he did acknowledge that he has had discussions with Hill and called Utah a "good place to be."

Utah or UW... I think I'd stay with Utah too. Put up another big season next year and wait for a real team to come looking

December 2, 2008  09:03 AM ET

I would stay at Utah. Nothing against Washington but I think this guy could hold out for a better job at a BCS school.

Whittingham remember here he inherited a pretty good football team from some guy named URBAN MEYER now i know its been four years the wheels were already in motion he had things to recruit off of like them going to a bcs bowl before. At washington the picture isn't so bright and shiney. So i say Washington go with PAT HILL a guy who has the right attitude for a program that doesn't have one

December 2, 2008  11:29 AM ET

Seriously, reading that was as pleasant as getting a colonoscopy

December 2, 2008  11:35 AM ET

Well atleast i had a pt. i mean if you makes you feel better to make fun of the way i talk go ahead but just makes you sound stupid instead posting something worth while which obviously you don't have the common sense to do so.

The FBS is going to suck up a lot of good FCS coaches. This will stop the BCS nonsense at around 7 to 12 in the BCS. Now what can be done to stop the BS at 1 to 4 in the BCS. Notice: I don't have USC in the mix.

Ok, I will make a "pt." Your ability to comment on sports related articles are how do I put this? Lacking!

Why wouldn't he be a favored choice? They would be getting a good coach for relatively cheap. But just because he is a favored candidate doesn't mean he will take the job. Would you? I am almost certian he will listen to the offers, but that doesn't mean he will take them. He has a pretty good gig at a school that wants to keep him, and after taking them to the school's second BCS bowl in five years, they should be able to reward him with a nice extension.

December 2, 2008  12:26 PM ET

Whittingham has been a coach at Utah for 15 years. He's had one great season so far as a head coach, and the rest have been so-so. He'll probably take a contract extension for 5 more years at double the salary and that will be that.

Come on gurls, let's all just get along! Pull your panties out of your cracks, kiss & make up.

I doubt Whittingham takes the UW job. I think he actually likes living in SLC. Maybe he waits for a better job to pop up, but my hunch is he stays at Utah for a while. The way the Mountain West is, the Utes are going to be in the mix for the conference title every year. And now, he can use the "We've been to two BCS bowl games in the last four years" card, which is a lot more than most of the schools that would have an opening could say. He's got a good situation at Utah. He doesn't strike me as someone who would leave for the cash. And frankly, I don't blame him. He can win a lot of games there, make good money, and raise his family in a nice community.

December 2, 2008  01:13 PM ET

And for what it's worth, I don't think Pat Hill gets the job either. If UW really cares about restoring the program, they need to get someone a bit younger that would stay a while. At this point, I don't have a clue what they're going to do and neither does anyone else. Hell, I'm not even sure Emmert and Woodward know what they're going to do.

December 2, 2008  04:31 PM ET

Everyone is looking for a a "move UP", the only issue is that few people can meet the unreasonable expectations that go with that move. Most people don't realize when they had it made or their "dream job" until they have left it for "bigger and better things". Too bad you can't go back sometimes.

December 2, 2008  07:37 PM ET

Going from Utah to Washington is demotion--even if they pay you more. Who cares about coaching in a BCS conference if it the Big East or if the woes of the Pac 10 continue. Mountain West fans think the BCS system should be shortened to the BS system.
