Why Jazz may let Boozer go
One under the radar free agent for this summer is Utah's Paul Millsap. The thinking is the Jazz will only be able to afford to bring back Carlos Boozer, though Millsap will get a pile of their money if Boozer leaves. They'd like to keep both, which is why there always is Andrei Kirilenko rumors and speculation. One Western Conference coach told me his team prefers when Boozer plays over Millsap because Millsap is such a superior defender.

change the link wordage. "release" and "let go" at the end of the season are two different things si.com. i thought it'd be an article about the idiot thinking of jazz management. nobody releases players nowadays...cept the knicks

The Jazz have too many talented big men so something's gotta give. They should look into trading Okur for Eddy Curry and Malik Rose so they can get some cap rspace to sign both Milsap and Boozer.
Boozer, AK 47 and Milsap can man the middle while Eddy Curry works on getting back into game shape.

Yeah the Jazz do have a lot of men in the middle. Keep Milsap, Boozer and AK, try trade Okur for a big man with an expiring contract, such as Curry. Or run the risk of Miami offering Boozer a contract, him taking it and leaving. Wade and Boozer for a year in Miami before Wade bolts in 2010 free agency to a team with a better chance of winning a championship, cause by 2010 Marion will probably be gone, and I can't see Boozer, Wade and Beasley challenging for a ring, infact I don't even see Boozer and Beasley working together, so maybe they won't sign Boozer, instead decide to keep Beasley their main man, until 2010 when Wade leaves and suddenly the Miami heat's franchise player is a third year pro.. Oklahoma Thunder anyone?

I would let Boozer go. Actually the Jazz would be better off trading him then letting him walk for nothing.

Milsap is the man. He plays D, rebounds and out husles just about every one on the floor. I know Paul is a little small for Power Foward but so is Booz. I say let Booz go and pay Paul.

No one is going to want to throw any kind of significant money at free agents this offseason because they are all going to want to keep their money until the 2010 offseason when free agent market will be loaded. Besides, Boozer is not a "big money" type of guy. He is a hard worker, but an average player. If they can trade him, good for them. It all depends on how much Utah is willing to drop on an impact player the following year.

Exactly. No one wants Curry, especially the Jazz. Its so crazy hearing these guys talking about trades involving Knicks. Theyve alrerady gotten rid of all the bums they had that anyone wanted to trade for.

marion is gone in miami either this year or this summer. wade is not going to bolt, because all the heat need is a good big man. If the heat land boozer then ta-da, problem solved. they could also concieveably get drew gooden to play center as well. with that said, do you really think that a line up of (see below) could not win a championship? as long as beasley continues to improve his defense, this team could win a championship.

boozer...haslem
beasley...wright
wade...cook

ps if okur walks who is going to play center for utah?

Wouldn't it be great if you could juxtapose Boozer and Millsap into one player and pay them their averaged salary? Until Boozer learns to play defense, the Jazz would have trouble getting past the early playoff rounds. They don't have a great shotblocker like Eaton or even Ostertag anymore and Karl Malone even used to defend against some of the great centers. The Jazz are soft inside and would have to be able to stop the likes of Duncan and Howard while defending the lane against dribble drives. Though Millsap is undersized, he has the ability and the desire to play defense and has developed into a potent scorer given minutes. If Boozer leaves, the Jazz have the luxury of having Millsap who already knows the Jazz offense and would come at a much lower price. I agree that it would be better to trade Boozer than leave the Jazz empty-handed, maybe for a shotblocking center or a lights-out perimeter shooter.

I used to feel the same way-
BUT I've changed my opinion on him......
There are few true low-post offensive players left in the league
Boozer is clearly one of them-
He absolutely is not a top ten caliber player- but he is a quality
scorer in the low post and as I said above- those type players
(who also rebound & play D are VERY hard to find)

They wont resign Boozer or Okur & as usual the jazz wont get to the promise land of a championship in franchise history!

Well Curry's contract isnt expiring. He has two more years after this year at roughly 22 million. They are player options so i highly doubt he would walk away from that much money knowing he cant get a big contract on the free agent market.

jgb - I will have to watch some more Jazz regular season games to get a better idea of what Boozer is capable of. My experience watching him has been mostly limited to the playoffs, when he has been good, not great. His stats from the last couple regular seasons show that he can be a 20-10 guy. So he may be better than I have witnessed first hand. One thing is for sure, I will pay more attention to him now.

The Jazz are about to make a huge mistake. Who's going to replace him and make the Jazz a better team? The Jazz front office is trying to avoid contract negotiations. This is the old LA Clippers mentality. Trade a player to avoid his contract. It has never worked, and it never will.

Put the pipe down dude. Curry is in the process of eating himself out of the league. Noone is going to trade for him. Smart money says at the end of his current contract, he's finished in the NBA.
