New York Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio is unwilling to commit to a future with the team unless ownership ponies up for reinforcements. Osorio helped the New York Red Bulls win a conference championship, though they fell just short of the championship in Major League Soccer. Yet the Colombian coach is now considering offers from other teams in Mexico and Columbia.

JCO likes the drama. Did he not pull something similar with the Chicago Fire organization last winter?

Yet the Colombian coach is now considering offers from other teams in Mexico and Columbia.........................It is COLOMBIA! Did the editor miss that one?

December 2, 2008  11:38 AM ET

zizou- yes he did this with the fire.... prepare for the future just to drop us.... he mentioned before he's using the MLS as a springboard into europe.... it wouldnt shock me if he ends up in europe or Colombia next season.... but i doubt he would... Redbulls have maybe 1 more year with him.....

December 2, 2008  11:39 AM ET

I am puzzled how this guy still has a job, more so, is fielding offers from other teams interested in him. RBNY ran to the finals based on luck and the kindest goal posts I have ever seen.

December 2, 2008  11:51 AM ET

So much for showing loyalty to the NJRB.
Wasn't that why he ditched the Fire? Because he was a long time assistant in New York - going back to the MetroStars era?

December 2, 2008  12:36 PM ET

zizou- yes.... he mentioned when he was with the fire, that he would only move if he was offered a lucrative offer.... we all assumed he meant abroad.... RBNJ was not only a lateral move from the fire, but also to a weaker team.... if the right deal comes, JCO is gone.... or perhaps his wife will tell him what to do again :D

eitherway, i agree with FotG.... NY were lucky to get into the playoffs, let alone make it to the finals.... they relied heavily on Richards speed to tear apart defense.... this is how the Fire dominated RBNJ all season long... our back line were physical and quick.... Houston were shown up, despite having vet defenders, they were slow.... RSL got screwed by some unfortunate post balls..... and CLB showed how weak RBNJ truely were.... and now they are representing us in the CL :(....

I got to be honest - I don't think the goal RSL was attacking in the 2nd half of that semi-final was regulation size.

December 2, 2008  01:26 PM ET

Lets not forget they played in the weakened Western Conference. Houston's defense was garbage all season, and RSL were painfully unlucky in a game that should have ended 4-1.

Living on the east coast and following RBNY because of its relative closeness, I have to say it was one of the more uninspiring finals of any sport I have ever seen. Its not like they backed in and got hot, they backed in and played against teams who must have been trying to lose. I usually cheer for the underdog in most cases, but I just couldn't muster the will to cheer for a club that were that bad.

Nah he was only here for a year.

Houston gave up the least amount of goals of all teams so if their defense was garbage then what about the rest of the league...

Gotta give JCO credit for having a competitive team despite losing 5 guys who were starters at the beginning of the season. I don't blame him if he leaves, it would be hard to follow up this season without reinforcements.

Redbulls relied heavily on Dane's speed.... which is Houston's weakness.... they have solid vets in the backline, but they are also incredibly slow..... dane was simply their kryptonite....

the 5 starters wouldnt have been an issue if JCO actually did something during the offseason....

Why didn't JCO play Kanji more?

Good thing I got my USL, ATL Silverbacks jersey on sale.

The Western Conference was not that great this year. You only have to look at RBNY getting to the finals to see that one. Houston, in my opinion, took advantage of that to the fullest.

For me, its like looking at my Phillies, who just won the World Series. I can't say the same thing if they are in the AL, or playing head to head all season against anyone in the AL East or Central. Sometimes you are just fortunate to be where you are against a favorable matchup.

...because the Silverbacks franchise folded like a lawn chair.

JCO, or any MLS coach for that matter, seems really limited as to how they can shape the club due to cap restrictions and player development. The roster restrictions are also crazy coupled with the salary rules. You can't get the players you want over here or keep the good domestic products by offering next to nothing.

Its like watching the Champions League and seeing they have to have x-number of domestic players on their rosters now.

December 3, 2008  10:25 AM ET

JCO is one funny character. With his little notepad and gestures on the sidelines.
JCO didn't get them to MLS Cup, JPA did.
JCO, go ahead and pull a Chicago Fire on the NYRB's, you're good for it!
Shame on any other team that takes him.
Like George W. Bush said, " Fool me once......................... shame on......... you, fool me....uh,........fool me can't get fooled again".

Yea but Houston played every team at least twice, cross conference games are not limited in MLS as it is in other sports so they did play the whole league and not just the West.

It is true NY had luck on their side, all I'm saying is JCO does deserve some credit of holding the team together when it was much easier to just give up and not play hard. To say he didnt do anything in this run to the finals is a bit ridiculous IMO.
