Vazquez is not that big of a name, look at his career 2 games under .500 and and era over 4.3 and has a bad habit of folding under pressure, maybe a change of teams may help, but not to sure if Braves made out in thus deal, if anything they filled a hole in the rotation

It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

I'm dissapointed the Braves gave up Tyler Flowers in the deal, he's got a lot of potential. Sox may have gotten a future all star catcher and he could be MLB ready after Pierzynski's contracts is up.

Lillibridge was unnecessary with Yunel Escobar at short but there is no way the Braves trade Escobar now so no chance of revisiting the Peavy trade.

They could trade Escobar if they are willing to offer Rafael Furcal the contract he wants, he would love to come back.

Flowers has been hyped.... but remember, he's only played in A Ball.... remember all the hype around Salty?.... now supposedly the Rangers are looking to trade him.... Vasquez is meant to fill the #3 or #4 slot and eat up 200 innings, which is what he does..... not the sexiest trade in the world.... but it will look better if and when they sign a number 1....

Good deal for the braves. Now get AJ and Peavey and we have a solid rotation. Throw in an outfielder, then add Furcal at short and wow we are contenders again.

Yeah but he got traded from a team where he was blocked (McCann) to another team where he was blocked (Gerald Laird). Texas has a surplus of catchers and Salty needs to be traded to a team where he can play everyday to get some consistency going.

I agree with MOST of this, but one area is erroneous. As a Cubs fan (a.k.a "The Lost Boys"), you probably turned off your TV in late September of 05' when your team was out of playoff contention. Javi pitched his arse off in the playoffs AND World Series, so that "habit" you mentioned should be reserved for the team you follow (see 07' and 08').

I think this trade DEFINITELY helped the Sox though as Javi is gettin' old and the Braves coughed up quite a bit of youth for him.

Even if Vasquez isn't great at least he gives the Braves a near certainty that he will pitch over 200 innings this year. That's more than you can say for most of the pitchers they have had the last few years. But yeah they shouldn't stop here as they need a lot more than a #3-4 starter.

It is hard to not see the Braves in the play offs...this is a good start...

Hey the Cubs choked, but you would not be talking any of that smack if your 10000 loss team would have not won the Series this year.

Wouldn't go that far. Braves have a tough division to contend with (Mets, Phillies, Marlins sometimes) so I won't proclaim anyone as the team to beat (although I'm sure Rollins will) until I see what othr moves are made this winter.
