Peavy may prefer Cubs

Padres general manager Kevin Towers yesterday spoke more bearishly about the prospects of a Jake Peavy trade than he has since talks began three months ago. "Atlanta has a club policy that's been in place that no one will have full no-trade protection," he said. "I don't see them bending the rules for Jake. At this point in time, that's not going to happen unless Jake changes his position on that." Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar would be part of a Peavy deal and could end up at second base if the Padres keep shortstop Khalil Greene. Some close to Peavy have expressed doubt that he would OK a trade to Atlanta, saying he would prefer the Cubs. The Padres have discussed a 5-for-1 deal with the Cubs that would bring them several pitchers, including an Orioles pitcher, but Towers said the Cubs'recent signing of pitcher Ryan Dempster for $52 million might make it difficult for them to afford Peavy.

Cubs have not giving anything yet, there is talk of including the Orioles to get what the Padres want, I belive that they want a couple prospects, a major league ready pitcher and major league ready infielder, Pie and Marshall have been mentioned but I am not sure who else has been talked about

This just adds to the soap opera that are the Chicago Cubs.
Once again they will have a stellar pitching staff but come the post-season the hitters will let those pitchers down.

See movie #1 - 2007 Playoffs v. ARZ D-Backs.
See the sequel - 2008 Playoffs v. LA Dodgers

Trilogy to be completed in 2009.

....and just how far has your team gone in the playoffs lately...and don't come out with "at least we won a whole game in the playoffs....troll!!

December 3, 2008  05:22 PM ET

My team went as far as the Cubs did in 2008...first round loss. Except we were knocked out by the World Series champs.

My post wasn't anything other than acknowledging the Cubs have a very good pitching rotation. It's the other 8 players that struggled. I wasn't bashing or anything like that...my MLB team is irrelevant in this T&R.
