Carson: Giants should bring Plaxico back

Though Eli Manning agrees on the Giants' decision to put Plaxico Burress on the shelf for the remainder of the season, Harry Carson thinks Burress should get another chance to step onto the field in a Giants uniform in the future. "I would like to see him come back and play, and I'd like to see the Giant organization hang with him. I think they should," the Hall of Famer linebacker said at the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year banquet last night in Manhattan. "Whether they will or not, that's another story. But I would hope that they will hang with him through this whole process and not jettison him." Carson said the team did what it had to do in suspending Burress for the rest of the season, but he also felt the troubled wide receiver wasn't the only player to make a mistake in the history of the Giants. "Listen, we all have done really dumb stuff," Carson said. "There are dumb things that I have done, there are dumb things that Lawrence Taylor has done, but we had the opportunity to come back and play. "What Plaxico did didn't hurt anybody except Plaxico."

Oh sure. It hurts the tem ding-a-ling. What kinda fool is Carson? Think about it. The chump has hurt the team. Dump him and get rid of ALL the issues surrounding him. What kinda dumb stuff does Carson be doing. Rock. Word.

giants should set 3 conditions:

(1) he attends a class on firearms safety

(2) he obtains a legal carrying permit for NY & NJ. plus any other state he'll be carrying in.

(3) he only carries 1 round of ammunition. and that bullet is kept in his shirt pocket at all times. never in the gun.

December 3, 2008  06:38 AM ET

of course it took a retiree to say they should take him back......

December 3, 2008  06:40 AM ET

I don't have a problem with Plax playing again, or for the Giants. Do I think Plax is an idiot? Yes....Is he going to jail, probably.

If I were management, they have already invested 2 2nd round picks, and a 4th rounder at WR. Amani Toomer can play two more seasons. Steve Smith is a Good/Great First down machine, and Dominik Hixon is starting to really turn the corner. Moss has produced a little when given a chance. I am not sure what Manningham will become, but I would feel comfortable parting ways with him.

December 3, 2008  06:42 AM ET

Hmmm, let's see. Plaxico hasn't done much to help them win this year. Now he's gone and done the dumb-dumb. The G-men are tearing **** through the league and are better off without this foolish child causing nothing but problems. Screw him. Dump the contract. If he wants to come back, enjoy the league minimum. Or go play with the Lions or Raiders in NFL purgatory.

The conversation the night of the "incident";

Pierce: Hey Plexico,is that a pistol in your pants or are you just happy to see me?

December 3, 2008  06:58 AM ET

This should be up to the NY City penal system. If they are cowards, and let Plax deal out, then the team should bring him back. Fact is this is the perfect time for the courts to set a precedent with a high profile defendant. I hope he gets 3 1/2 years.

bring him back and make him wear a big scarlet "I" for idiot on his jersey.

December 3, 2008  07:18 AM ET

It might be a moot point if he goes to jail. According to the Mayors previous comments, he wants ANYONE with an unregistered firearm to spend 3 years in jail. Will be interesting to see if he holds to it with a star. If he doesn't go to jail, he'll be back with the giants. But I would really like him to publically admit how stupid he was.

This time.

Leonard Little killed a woman, and he was allowed back to the Rams. He got 4 games this year, I think if he's found guilty, he should 4-6 games next year, and be allowed back to the Giants if they want him.

Killed a woman??

wait wait wait....

"What Plaxico did didn't hurt anybody except Plaxico."

That has to be the MOST idiotic uninformed statement I have read on this.

What if?

Thats all that needs to be said really. What if. That moron didnt know how to work a safety. That moron had the gun with the safety off in his wasteband.

This time he shot himself in the leg...that bullet could have easily hit Pierce or anyone else in that club.

I hate football. I used to love it. I used to love watching on Sundays and would watch religously.

I cant watch it anymore. Havent watched all season. I am not sure I can ever love this game the way I did at one point.

There are too many people playing this GAME, getting paid millions to do it, and they do not deserve one cent that we fans pay.

They are thugs, drug abusers, horrible role models, violent, abusive with women...

I want my children and the children in my family to see strong positive black men as role models.

Not this ****. And certainly not some other old time schmuck defending him like the moron he is.

Goodell, how did you come to the decision to let Jones play again? Youre a ****.

Am I going to ever watch the NFL again?

Not F-ucking Likely.

From Wikipedia:

After a drunken birthday in 1998, Little crashed into and killed another motorist, Susan Gutweiler in St. Louis, MO. When tested, his blood alcohol level measured 0.19 percent, a level that exceeds the statutory level of intoxication of 0.08 in the state of Missouri.[5] Little received 90 days in jail, four years probation and 1000 hours of community service.[6]

[edit] Second arrest
Six years later, in 2004, Little was again arrested for drunk driving and speeding.[7] The probable cause statement filed by police said Little had bloodshot and watery eyes, smelled of alcohol and failed three sobriety tests. [8] Because of Little's 1999 guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter in his drunken-driving crash case, prosecutors charged him as a persistent offender. This made it a felony case.[8] Little was acquitted of driving while intoxicated, but was convicted only of the misdemeanor speeding charge.[

How long has Plax lived in NY? Probably a few years at least. Can't tell me he didn't know about NY's Firearm law. I've never lived there and know it is one of the hardest places in the country to own a firearm, and one of the toughest places to get caught with ine that was unregistered. I think he is going to jail. Anything else would smack of preference to special players. I am not saying I agree with the law.... Just that if it is there, they need to enforce it evenly like they do with everyone else.

December 3, 2008  08:01 AM ET

I agree with Carson. The future is what the court system says it is now. For all of Burress' faults, he is not mean, violent or a drug user. He literally and figuratively self inflicts his own problems. In the NFL, he is not even in the top fifty for players of questionalble character. They did the right thing to suspend him.

December 3, 2008  08:07 AM ET

There's a reason they call it "professional" football.

December 3, 2008  08:10 AM ET

Harry says "What Plaxico did didn't hurt anybody except Plaxico."

Bull.
What about the doctor and the guys at the club who will likely be charged with obstruction of justice?
What about Antonio Pierce (see above)?
How about his teammates who are now playing shorthanded?

Don't even take into account the value that ticket buyers lose because the team is not the same. Forget the kids that may be influenced by the behavior.

A team lost it's #1 receiver in a gun related incident and then used his influence and fame to manipulate others into lawbreaking behavior to try and cover it up, and Harry thinks he only hurt himself. You should have used the shoulders more, Harry, and not led with your head on all those tackles.

Disclaimer - Plax is on my Fantasy Team, and now I've got a big hole heading into the playoffs.

Some of you people care waaaayy too much about other peoples lives, and just love to see them punished... Sure he did something stupid, but that thing didn't hurt anybody else... And to you who said NY needs to set a precedence by sending him to jail, it's too late, they already set a precedence by letting all the other first offenders with this charge off on probation... They can't turn around now and send this man to jail because he's a celebrity... And by the way "F" the Mayor... He's a schmuck for trying to influence this case...
