Tigers pass on Padres' Greene

For now, at least, we can scratch the Padres' Khalil Greene from the list of potential Tigers shortstops. An industry official familiar with talks between the clubs told the Free Press on Tuesday that Detroit is not interested in trading for Greene, San Diego's starter at the position since 2004. It seemed that the Tigers were mildly intrigued by Greene earlier this off-season, but that does not appear to be the case at this point. Greene will earn $6.5 million next year, which is more than Detroit would prefer to spend on its shortstop, anyway.

Someone will trade for this kid, he has great defense and a change a change of ballparks just might spark his offense again

If the tigers pick up any starting short stop via trade- it will be Wilson from the Pirates... Mark my words.

Yeah, DD has always been infatuated with him. Seems like a solid choice.

Wilson would be a solid choice. Besides, we need to keep the ex-pirate club stocked.
Next week starts the GM meetings. Hopefully we'll see some action. biminator, I agree with your comment on the other thread about a catcher being a higher priority than SS, but we'll take both!
I got my season ticket renewal info. yesterday. Guess I'll have to scale back on Christmas for the kids. I'd better not chance doing it for my wife.

Change of ballparks? How do you explain his poor avg on the road?

What I am saying if you put a guy on a team where everyone produces and has a good attitude most players will feed off of that, as for Greene, he was on a team that totally under achieved last year, you have to agree that it has to pull a player down .Yes he is a pro and that should not matter but he is human.

Yes Greene had a miserable year offensively, and then ended the year prematurely with an uncharacteristic incident. But he is still one of the most underrated shortstops in MLB. As a Padres fan and a huge Greene fan I am relieved for the moment another team withdraws its interest. Hopefully he stays in San Diego and me/some Padres fan who agree have a bright spot with Greene to watch.

I was hoping you and your posts would be gone by now. EastCoastKeith is a poster with class. You on the other hand are a first class jerk. I had other words, but they'd be filtered.

Hey Nick, had you been on this site as long as I have and had a clear mind, you'd realize how badly you have misrepresented me here. But people like you are the norm here now, so you have the power. I am fully aware of the Padres problems as I have commented on here numerous times. You're trying to make a name for yourself on a website by attacking others. Hope it makes you feel good. (1 in 5 young adults in America do have a mental disorder that is untreated as reported recently)

Thanks for the support Cardsfan. And interestingly enough just before posting this on the morning of Thursday of 12-4, San Diego and St. Louis papers report a trade of Greene to the Cards for pitching prospects. Believe me, if this is true, you're getting a class-act human being who WILL bounce back and make San Diego very sorry for trading him. I'm always a Padres fan, but I guess I'll have a tad of interest in the Cardinals with my favorite pro athlete now apparently on the roster.
