Mientkiewicz lets Pirates have final say

Doug Mientkiewicz has told the Pirates they will have "the final say" on where he plays in 2009. The team's popular utilityman and clubhouse leader is a free agent and has drawn some early interest in what he hopes will result in a chance to return to a starting role. But, as he told general manager Neal Huntington in a conversation early last month, he will not sign a contract until he places a call to Pittsburgh.

What a guy. I will give you the honor of paying me more.

Does he still have that WS ball?

I would love to meet a Pirates fan. Just one. It would help dispel that crazy idea I have that the stadium is actually filled with surplus life-sized cardboard cutouts of Indiana Jones.

Wow. This thread is so lame Kaycee hasn't even seen fit to regurgitate that annoying Jim Rice post on it.

True story, the TRUTH and the missus went on a little weekend getway to Pittsburgh and wanted to add PNC Park to our MBL ballpark list. Literally everyone we talked to was there for the same reason. There were no Bucs fans there.

Well if you celebrated Festivus, you could get that off your chest during the airing of grievances.

I have just totally frustrated. I have been trying to net a marsupial for my own since 2001 and all of these damn trade and commerce restrictions are becoming an annoyance!

I will see you in hell Dick Cheney!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The airing of grievances shall now begin!

I am a Pirates fan! Gee it's great that Douglass wants to continue to play for us, but he is exactly what the Pirates don't need. I could see hims start on a team that is absolutely loaded everywhere else, but if he starts for the 'rates he just adds to their offensive shortcomings. Thanks, but no thanks.

I'm a Pirates fan, I love them despite the fact I'm not old enough to really remember a good season. I'm one of few I know, but I still continue to go to games. I noticed though after looking at the ticket plans and the slogan they use, the Pirates are doing a good job with what most people go to PNC Park to see. The last part of the slogan is, "or just come see the beautiful city skyline."
