Will Gators use Harvin as decoy?

The most anticipated matchup in the 17-year history of the Southeastern Conference championship game is only three days away, and the status of the best player in the best game remains uncertain. Will Florida junior Percy Harvin, who is recovering from an injury to his right ankle, line up for the No. 2 Gators (11-1) on Saturday in Atlanta against No. 1 Alabama (12-0), or will Harvin watch helplessly from the sideline? Whether Harvin is healthy enough to play Saturday or Meyer uses this multitalented playmaker as a decoy, Alabama's defense is preparing for Harvin the same way -- as if he had ungoverned access to his abilities.

Well duh... of course Bama is gonna prepare for him at full strength. You don't think anyone has ever over-stated an injury before?

For sure/....

Definitely he's a decoy. Really looking forward to this game. It should be a good one.

It all comes down to the Alabama secondary. If they cover well 'Bama wins... if not... Florida gets 35+ points.

This story really makes no sense. If he is injured, why risk him at all? Its very easy to aggravate an ankle injury. So being a decoy makes no sense. If he's okay, then its a non-issue.

Harvin really is hurt, and I do not expect him to play much outside of a few screen passes in the first half.

The game is on Tebow, Demps, Rainey, and Louis Murphy. Alabama will not score more than 20. Can the Gators score 20 in the first half?

And Meyer doesn't believe in injuries. He has guys who are on injured reserve carry boulders around the stadium. I read this two years ago. Doesn't that sound fun?

Yep yep

I've been hearing over and over and over that #1, #2, and #3 receivers - not much drop off, so if that's true, how could using his as a decoy really change anything?

December 4, 2008  10:54 AM ET

Decoy it the dumbest statement. Harvin doesn't play the entire game anyway. He's a phenom, but he is one player. Tebow would be an entirely different story.

Get Bama into an 8 man front, out of nickel, and they get torched. Keeping Cody occupied with one lineman is key. If it takes two or three to keep him out of the backfield, we are in for a battle.

Also, if Bama is able to run up the middle, the game will be significantly shorter.

Initially I thought UF had this game. But the more I think about it, Bama is in perfect position to pull this off. Saban may be the devil, but he gets the job done.

Yes, I believe so. Even if Harvin doesn't play, we have lots of weapons to prevent Bama from focusing just on Tebow. I wouldn't dismiss Bama from scoring 20 (I've been saying 45-21), but they certainly won't get much more than that. And there is NO WAY we don't score at least 30.

But, like others , I can't wait for this game - I just think I'll enjoy it a heckuva lot more than Bama fans...
