Tech to offer Leach raise, extension
Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said Wednesday that he's prepared to offer football coach Mike Leach a raise and contract extension "sooner (rather) than later." Myers' comments come on the heels of reports in Seattle newspapers that Leach flew to Seattle on Monday to interview for the University of Washington job. Leach is under contract through 2010 but is in high demand after Tech finished 11-1 and earned a share of the Big 12 South title. Myers cited budget concerns in August when he did not extend Leach's contract to five years, but added that he planned to get a deal done after the season. Now, Leach has more bargaining power with the combination of a record-setting season and interest from Washington. Myers said he hasn't talked to Leach since Tech's 35-28 win over Baylor on Saturday. Myers also said that neither Leach nor someone from Washington had contacted him.

Bet the AD really wishes he would have got that extension signed before Tech had such a great season this year.

If Auburn or Washington really want him they are going to up the ante pretty high on Tech.

How fast can you say, "Gone!" I'd expect him to take Auburn over Washington, but with this rumor mill, I would bet Washington has already offered him a job. Be assured, TX Tech needs a new coach!

The AD from Tech has completely lost it not only did he blow his chance to sign and talk to leach about the extension in the SUMMER! He also has the stupidity to come out and say hey we have to draw the line on our spending somewhere. GONE! GONE! GONE!

It would take an offer of epic proportions to get him to stay in west Texas if he were offered jobs at either Washington or Auburn. Washington is obviously the most attractive of the three. Washington is about on par with Auburn in terms of prestige and then there is location, location, location. West Texas might as well be part of the third world and Alabama is the seventh layer of Hell whereas Settle is quite nice. Tech would have to offer 1.5 million more than UW to get any reasonable person there and Auburn would have to offer 1 million more.

Auburn and Washington are the same in prestige? NOT! Auburn is clearly the more attractive job your sitting in recruit central if your in auburn. Not as big a rebuilding job at auburn as washington. Not bashing just dont agree.

I do agree with this somewhat. Auburn is a short distance from Atlanta and the state of Florida.
With Washington, you are the main school in the state. With Auburn you are always the little brother.

Texas Tech coach Mike Leach and Fresno State coach Pat Hill have both withdrawn from consideration for the head coaching job at Washington.
Leach withdrew Thursday, a person close to the Red Raiders coach told ESPN.com. Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said earlier in the week that Leach hadn't sought permission for an interview and that he hadn't been contacted by Washington. Myers also said that Texas Tech was negotiating a contract extension with Leach, although Leach's agent denied that to ESPN's Joe Schad.
