Agent: Burnett has many suitors

Agent Darek Braunecker does not see A.J. Burnett, celebrating that contract signing anniversary with another new deal Sunday in Las Vegas when executives gather for the annual winter meetings. "Interest is significant, but I don't know if you can handicap a timetable," Braunecker said, "in the past you had a sense of what was coming going into the meetings. I can't even tell you that will be the case next week at the winter meetings. The New York Yankees are interested as they wait for free-agent lefty CC Sabathia to decide if he will accept their three-week-old, six-year, $140-million offer. The Boston Red Sox need another starter, be it Derek Lowe or Burnett. If both the Yankees and the Red Sox are interested, Braunecker has created the perfect storm. Despite adding Javier Vazquez from the Chicago White Sox, the Atlanta Braves want Burnett. Braves super scout Jim Fregosi did not miss many of Burnett's starts the in the final two months of last season. The Braves have some holes as John Smoltz and Tom Glavine had season-ending surgery, while Tim Hudson had elbow surgery on Aug. 7. The World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies and the Baltimore Orioles -- not far from Burnett's Maryland home -- are in the chase. And so too are your Toronto Blue Jays.

Well, insurance premiums are very affordable right now.

Adding him to Philly, if he could indeed keep healthy, would really tighten them up for another run. Not to mention making the rest of that sorry-arsed division look even sorrier-arsed.

It has taken 15 years but Jim "Ed" Rice will FINALLY be elected to the Hall of Fame !!!

well just because he has one good year doesn't make up for the years on the DL

Um, hey man, you gotta little something there, stuck in your crack. Trust me I know how embarrassing that can be.

Any offers? I mean besides the one the Yankees made. And I donlt even want him on the Yankees, I think he is an injury waiting to happen.

Yeah that division is kind of questionable right now. You can penicl the Nationals in for a guaranteed losing record and the Marlins also likely fall into that category. The Mets and Braves all have serious holes to plug in their line ups and rotations. As it stands right now the Phillies should win the NL East so if they got Burnett yes they would really shelack the other sorry arsed teams in their sorry arsed division.

December 4, 2008  09:51 AM ET

If the Braves pick him up, then Smoltz, Glavine, and Hudson will be competeing for #4 and #5...or Smoltz will juct step in at closing or setup man. WOW! Huge differenc ethan last year. I think this puts us back to being in the division race. Now someone work on Francoeur's head, we have a shot!

not to throw love at the Phils, but the sorry arsed division winner just barely won the division and yet smoked the Rays. A team, mind you that pimpslapped the Yanks and the Sox.

CC is the only player i think the Yankees must have. They should sign another pitcher if they are losing both Moose and Pettite, but a track record of injury makes me nervous. He has always pitched the Yankees and Red Sox tough though...

The Rays did not pimp slap the Yankees last year...they did not.

I like the way you talk but truly, that is inaccurate.

The Yankees won 11 of 19 games against the Rays last year, look to the Red Sox to see why the Rays won the division.

December 4, 2008  12:12 PM ET

I'm sure there is alot of interest.......
but I can GUARANTEE there isn't alot of interest in him for 4 or more years

December 4, 2008  12:55 PM ET

I'm sure every team is interested, but how many actually want him for more than 3-4 years, which is what he's look for.

December 4, 2008  01:25 PM ET

Heard the Braves are willing to give Burnett a 5th year. (scary) They may have the inside track.

December 4, 2008  01:43 PM ET

Yeah Jays, keep on truckin!
