Izzo too quick to take blame?

Has Coach Izzo lost his Spartans already? Is he too quick to accept the blame for some uninspired hoops from the team the past week? Might he be sounding a little too much like Lions coach Rod Marinelli, who feels it necessary to beat himself up, and not the players, after each loss? One of the game's true gentlemen, Izzo isn't known for throwing his players under the bus, and he didn't following Wednesday's second-half debacle. According to ESPN.com, however, Izzo felt he'd asked too much of his team. "The blame goes on me for the scheduling," said Izzo. "We were dead."

all true Tom, and the media has WAY OVERRATED YOUR TEAM this year....

December 4, 2008  08:01 PM ET

Many victories to come for this Spartan team, I don't know why people are so quick to judge. When the season is over you will see another Spartan team driving deep into the NCAA's. Give this team a chance to gel & add Suton back to the line up. This is a top 20 team...no doubt about it

We're Doomed, you are stupid, The big ten might be shaky in football but it is a respectable basketball conference. MSU lost to North Carolina team that will go down has one of the best teams ever to play college basketball and might go undefeated. No team in college basketball this year comes close to matching up against UNC.
I'm a Syracuse fan too so its not like I like UNC, they're just that good

We're doomed, you're a complete moron! First of all, it was NOT at home, it was in DETROIT!! I was at the game, and any home court advantage that would have been at the Breslin got taken away since the stadium was so big. You can't say MSU was home when they play at Ford Field, it is a COMPLETELY different environment. I'm not going to excuse MSU, they played horribly for the final 25 minutes. However, they did play competitively for the first 15 minutes. Keep in mind that the game was the fourth in seven days, with the two best defensive players (Roe and Suton) facing knee injuries. The performance shown by MSU is a LONG way from where it will be in March. Yes, MSU did not play well, and I'd say they're probably at the bottom of the top 25. But they will be better once they're healthy. I'm not excusing the loss, I'm just saying that this isn't the team they will be by the end of the year.

Spartan fans have no reason to get down on their team. There's not another team in the top 25 that would have done any better under those circumstances. Don't be talking trash to Spartan fans because whoever your team is, might end up playing UNC at some point this year too. Barring injury or some catastrophie, the result will probably be the same. # 2 UCONN barely beat Buffalo tonight so how do you think they would fare against North Carolina ?

December 5, 2008  12:31 AM ET

were doomed, your right MSU is wack. they seemed to give up at the end of the game, and dont give me this bullcrap about how they played 4 games in 7 days. please the team is in shape they just got beat badly by a much much much better team. i am a die hard unc fan and i dont think they will go undefeated. if yuo do your crazy. the acc is too strong a conference and if they were to be undefeated going into the NCAAs, chances are they might fall

December 5, 2008  12:32 AM ET

having said that UNC defintlty still has a shot and the best shot to win the national championship. MSU has no hope of ever winning ever ever

December 5, 2008  06:22 AM ET

UNC has not had a close game yet. Nothing for MSU to worry about. They will be fine. As mentioned in an earlier post, this UNC team will be mentioned as one of the greatest teams.

December 5, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Give it a rest, MSU does this every year. Schedule is too difficult in Nov-Dec, then they find themselves starting in January, end up a mid-to-lower top 20 team, where they should be.

Very true,
They have a hard schedule every year and drop some early games, not a big deal. I think these early losses are great for maturity come march madness. If there is such a thing as good losses, this would be one.

you spartans love the excuses

December 7, 2008  04:27 PM ET

every team likes excuses

It amuses me how much trash talking is being done by Tar Heels fans--like denigrating the opposition makes your team better? UNC played very well in that game, and were clearly up for it. MSU, for whatever reason, played poorly in the second half and paid for it. That said, if both teams are top of their game, UNC probably wins by 20. Does that make MSU a bad team? Not if UNC is anywhere near as great as is being claimed by Tar Heel nuts and pundits alike.

December 9, 2008  08:11 AM ET

At least MSU doesn't have a bugged eyed center like UNC does. Have you ever noticed his eyes?!? No wonder he makes as many baskets as he does, the hoop must look huge to him!!!

MSU will be dancing in late March. while most are sitting home wishing they had a partner to twirl round and round. GO STATE!!!

December 12, 2008  07:14 PM ET

I was at the game--UNC shot the lights out and Lucas showed why MSU will miss Drew Neitzel this year. Not a home game for the Spartans--probably 35-40% UNC fans in the auditorium and a cavernous arena that was maybe 35% full. Don't get too excited Tarheel fans. UNC will probably earn another 1 seed and then choke down the stretch in the big dance--again. And MSU, will be another sweet 16 team.. By the way--in the last ten years MSU has as many titles and final four trips as UNC...
