Yankees to meet with Sabathia

With free-agent movement slow, Brian Cashman is going to the action. The Yankees GM met with agent Scott Boras yesterday at an undisclosed location and has plans to huddle with CC Sabathia in Las Vegas before the Winter Meetings open there on Monday. Boras represents pitchers Derek Lowe and Oliver Perez, as well as sluggers Manny Ramirez and Mark Teixeira. It's the second time in a month Cashman and Boras have met. They had dinner at the GM Meetings in early November in southern California. With Sabathia not jumping at the Yankees' six-year, $140 million package that Hal Steinbrenner says won't be there forever, it's possible Cashman's scheduled meeting with Sabathia could be for the purpose of wanting to know what Sabathia's plans are. Outside of a five-year, $100 million offer from the Brewers, it's not believed Sabathia has another offer. The Angels are concentrating on re-signing Teixeira, and the Giants aren't interested in a big-ticket item such as Sabathia.

Tired of looking at this guy, someone please sign him, with weight issues that are will probably happen and an arm that has been used and abused he will be out of the limelight before the end of what every contract he signs, the only thing going for him is that he is a lefty which may extend him a couple of years

Holy frick! A CC/Yankees thread and no comments yet? Has the FN Rapture come? That would explain why I'm left behind but then where the heck are the rest of you fakers?! Slink, Cat, BC, Bec, Tony, RSB, JFKJR, Pimpy, SR, Truth, Starz- I know if they didn't take me, you guys still gotta be around here too!

And as a cubs fan you are an expert on healthy non abused pitchers no?

December 5, 2008  08:28 AM ET

The day has come where the Yankees have to beg players to come and play for them.

December 5, 2008  08:40 AM ET

Are the Yankees likely to go any higher? I guess that's what Boras is going to try to get them to do. My gut feeling is they'll do it. Where's bc???

Good morning A Fact & Dan.

I wouldn't question someone who has known NOTHING but consistent and undeniable success. Wait, what? Ohhhhhhhh Cubs fan? ****, forget what I said.

I doubt the Yankees will o higher, noone else has come close yet. Cash probably wants to get a fell for this situation before the winter meetings so that he can chase down some other pitching if CC really wants to go elsewhere.

This will most definitley blow up in the Yankees face if they get this guy. Another in the long line of good pitchers the Yanks threw truckloads of cash to and got nothing in return. Anyone seen Carl Pavano lately?

December 5, 2008  09:26 AM ET

This one is too obvious and I can't resist. Are the Yankees bidding against themselves here?

Nope I'm def getting left behind too. I just choose not to show up to work on time every single day lol. My comments don't start appearing until 9:30-10am.

And now the one on topic post I'll make today: Cashman is going to go meet with CC and flex his muscle. Make him an offer that he cannot refuse. Cashman might throw some incentives into the $140M deal such as free room service for all hotel stays during the season.

Around 6:30 this morning I woke up and thought it was Saturday.

That was one rude awakening.
