Insiders say the Twins are shopping outfielder Delmon Young everywhere. The Twins won't comment, but a trade with Colorado for setup reliever Houston Street, plus others, for Young would seem ideal for Minnesota.

why??? this is the dumbest thing minnesota could do.. he is one of the reasons that they did so well this year... why do teams do this???

I am pretty sure all moves made by the Twins are money related.

The TRUTH did some research and has come to discover that Young has one season remaining on his deal that would require an upgrade from shiny rocks and sticks to lint and toothpicks.

This guy must be a cancer. Everyone wants to move him....

I am beginning to think that I don't care what they do anymore, when they have a 2nd baseman like Punto and a shortstop like Casilla and continue to play Casilla at 2nd and Punto at SS it just goes to show you that they don't know what they are doing.

They lost Santana and Hunter last year and still were in contention to the very end. I'd give them a little more credit.

Just trade him for a decent third baseman already.

Delmon Young hit that umpire with his baseball bat in 2006 and got suspended 50 games because that was a terrible thing to do. It was wrong and it was cruel but he apologized for his actions. He then went to Major League Baseball and was a star over there. He started out with the Detroit Tigers and then went on to the Minnesota Twins where he has just finished up his first year with them and he might get traded. He's not that bad of a hitter and the Twins need hitting if anything. But they also need pitching after losing Johan Santana to the Mets. Huston Street has been traded to the former NL Champion Colorado Rockies for Matt Holliday. Why would the Rockies trade their new closer because they need one since Brian Fuentes is going to the Mets to the Twins who have Joe Nathan for a left fielder. Why would the Twins leave a hole in left field and then have two closers. This deal will not work out at Huston Street will not be involved.

I'd be shopping him too. He plays left field like a 70 year old man with bad eyesight, and reportedly the only hitting coach he'll listen to is his father. The Twins have probably come to the conclusion that he's never going to live up to the hype, so it might be best to deal him for help in other areas - and do it while there's still some mystique about his supposedly huge potential. After watching him for a year, his value seems more likely to decline than go up.

One thing about the TWINS they know TALENT if anybody comes from TWIN organization you know somewhere in he future they will be good or GREAT....The Twins just doesn't have the Money like the YANKS to keep their players

Just thought I would mention a little detail about the afore mentioned Delmon Young. He did not start out with the Detroit Tigers, but with the Tampa Bay Rays. He was with their AAA Durham team when he hit the umpire with the bat. He was eventually promoted to the Rays where he would not listen to the coaches and manager, thought he knew it all I guess. Hehad a run-in with the manager at the end of last season and was subsequently traded to the Twins, along with Brendon Harris and a minor league player for Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett and a minor league player. He will not get anywhere in MLB until he has an attitude adjustment.
HE needs to learn to hustle a little bit more and use the advice he gets from coaches etc. to take advantage of the talents that he seems to have.

Attitude problems.

Delmon can't field but he sure can hit. I'm not really fond of trading him because I think he has the potential to be a really good player but if you are going to trade him go for Adrian Beltre and Jarrod Washburn from Seattle or see if the Dodgers would give up Matt Kemp and Jonathan Broxton. I think their are plenty of pitching in the free agent market. For example Kerry Wood, Josh Fogg or Kyle Farnsworth. I think it would be in Minnesota's best interest to look into trading Joe Nathan to the Mets or anyone else looking for a closer and get some prospects. Move Francisco Liriano to closer and prolong his career instead of putting stress and wear on his arm.

If the twins were smart they'd consider giving Young the attitude adjustment he needs by sending him to AAA. He'd learn the hard way. He can certainly hit and would put up great numbers in Colorado. If they got two or top pitching prospects though, it could be a worthwile move.

As someone who is a big Twins fan and has followed their offseason rumors pretty close I know this T&R article is not the whole story of what they are shopping. They are considering trading Young but possibly Cuddyer. They had a great surplus of talent in the outfield this last season with the emergence of Denard Span. They are very high on the eventual talent Carlos Gomez who is still a little rough out in center but has shown promise at times. There most likely trade with colorado would be for Atkins to get the strong right handed hitting third basemen they are looking for. Another trade possibility would be to Seattle for Beltre. However, should they be able to sign Casey Blake I think Cuddyer or Young could be used in a trade for a shortstop. One of the most common rumors I have heard is JJ Hardy of the Brewers. Casilla is a good SS but he proved himself to be a very good second basemen this season. I don't think he would be moved back to short.

The Twins do need help in the bullpen having recently lost setup man Pat Neshek for another year for Tommy John surgery. Trading Nathan and moving Liriano to the closer role would be a terrible move. Most likely they will bring up Humber from AAA since he is out of options. He is a starter and will compete for a starting job in spring but likely start the season in the bullpen. Mijares will likely take over the setup role after a very imressive a dominant september call up.
With probably the best pitching coach in the game and the level of talent in the system, trading one of the outfielders for a reliever does not seem very likely. But I could be surprised. I never saw the trade for Young last year coming.
