The Chargers should hire him to replace the inept Norv Turner. Then again, GM A.J. Smith doesn't care about winning games so hiring Martz is out of the question.

Doesn't sound like a great idea for me. When was the last time he ran an awesome offense? It took the St. Louis Rams, a team with Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Orlando Pace, Torry Holt, and Issac Bruce to make his system work. All five of those players will at least get on the HOF ballot, and it wouldn't surprise me if all of them got in. What has his record been coaching players who aren't as good? Look what he's done in Detroit and SF. NOTHING. So what makes people think he could go to a college team and have young, inexperienced, mistake-prone kids run his perfection-oriented offense? Pretty slim.

No way this works. College players are only given a certain amount of time each week to learn their coach's system. Look at what a failure the West Coast Offense at Nebraska. Complicated offensive systems based on perfect timing can't work in college because the kids don't have the time to master it. I would love for SDSU to get competitive, but Martz isn't the answer. This looks like a stunt hire more than anything else.

I think Martz needs to stay at the pro level. I just don't see him connecting with kids, inspiring them to greatness. He would expect them to be professionals, not kids.

I think San Diego St should try and convince Fulmer or Tuberville to come and coach San Diego St. Personally I think both guys can still coach. Plus they both are excellent recruiters. Give either of them the state of California to recruit from and either one of those coaches can turn SDSU into a winner. Dick Tomey is winning at San Jose St, so I see no reason why Fulmer or Tuberville could not win games at SDSU.

This sound like a better option for the school and program.

They should look for an up-and-coming college assistant not an NFL guy because that usually doesn't work out.

I think he'll always be looking to get back to the NFL. I also think he's too arrogant for a school like SD State.

Not a name I would have expected to see thrown in there... Kinda surprised he would step on down. And I wonder if SDSU would pay him the jack he would want. They REALLY got burned with grossly over-paying Long (and are STILL on the hook, BTW).

As a Rams fan, I know his place isn't as head coach. He's a great OC, though.
