Recruits unfazed by LSU's lackluster showing

Few recruits have been a bigger cheerleader than LSU commitment Russell Shepard. He spent nearly two hours on a Baton Rouge radio station talking up the Tigers after making his commitment last summer. He also has been trying to help LSU with other uncommitted recruits. So it's no surprise the Tigers' late-season nose-dive did little to change Shepard's opinion. In fact, with Shepard planning to enroll Jan. 12, he sees an opportunity. Shepard won't be the only freshman quarterback in the mix. Chris Garrett of Tupelo, Miss., a three-star recruit, also will enroll early. He, too, isn't scared off by the Tigers' late collapse. LSU recruiting coordinator Josh Henson said he's still getting positive vibes from the 20 commitments and the players still being pursued by the Tigers. College coaching staffs will be making home visits and hosting recruits through Dec. 21 before the recruiting dead period begins Dec. 22.

Any recruit with a brain should realize this was just a down year for LSU. This also means that any recruit coming in will have a much greater chance to start for LSU next year.

December 7, 2008  02:29 PM ET

Miles is still a good coach. But, if he doesn't have a good year next year he may have to contend with the "He did it with Saban's team" stigma for a few more years.

With all due respect TCopelin, it's time for LSU fans and recruits to accept the fact that Les Miles is NOT a great coach.

Les Miles took over a program absolutely loaded with talent and has managed to squander it over the last two seasons. Yes, they won a National Championship last year... but I would contend they not only backed into it, but were darn lucky not to loose several more games along the way. Then this year, they collaped like a cheap card table.

Finally, Les Miles showed a LOT of interest in Michigan before the Wolverines decided on Rich Rodriquez... Which means of course, that all the hate directed towards Nick Saban for leaving LSU will soon be directed at Les Miles if he decides to exit as well.

Any recruit thinking of going to LSU needs to understand that Les Miles will likely NOT be at LSU by the time they are a senior... something to think about and consider before signing a national letter of intent with LSU.

Miles is Larry Coker with a smug attitude. His days are numbered. Should have went home when he had the chance.

Down year? You dam near lost to TROY. Smells like suck to me.

We are the only 2 time BCS championship team as for now. I think UF lost 4 after their Championship run, and lost to Michigan that got upset by App. State. So don't hate, and good luck trying to win you're 2cnd BCS title. Geaux SEC!!! Don't hate GatorBaitor.

CrimsonTex nice run ya'll had this year!! Awww it will be ok... Lets talk about Les bolting LSU, Ha, and you have Saban as a coach... Les might of won a NC with Nick's recruits, but what do you think Nick won his NC with?? Huh, simple Dinardo's recruits. Well you can't win every year!!

1 with Miles and you backed your butt into that one with 3 losses.

I don't hate, I just think Miles a lot in common with Coker.

Yeah.. exactly. And don't think Satan wont be building on this year as well. Miles better deliver sooner rather than later. There IS a new sheriff in town...

Don't think the burning in effigy, beat Satan, and other choice displays of petty jealousy don't motivate the Nicktator. I can see him staying up late at night figuring out innovative ways to drop sheet bombs on Red Stick. Miles was exposed this year. I know the QB play was a killer, but with the possible exception of Scott, the rest of the team massively underacheived. There is WAY too much talent not to lay that on the coach.

We'll see what happens when Ga. Tech puts up 45 on that LSU "defense" in the 1st 1/2.

Is Leslie trying to go to Auburn?

The difference is of course that LSU sucked when Saban got there... When Miles got to LSU, they were loaded and coming off a recent National Championship, thanks to Nick Saban.

The bottom line is Les Miles' worst nightmare has come true... he has been exposed as a very average coach when compared to Saban... and a resurgent Alabama will be his demise.

If Miles does not produce 9-10 wins next year he will be in DEEP trouble with the Tiger faithful. The only question is where will he run to next?

Also it was very obvious that the biggest issue was consistent play at the QB position; both these guys appear to be excellent QB prospects and are smart to relish the chance to dirve the LSU team.

We'll be back next year. Miles is a great coach.
Say what you want, everyone has down years. Period.

And it you're not back next year, will you burn Saban or Miles in effigy?

December 26, 2008  03:15 PM ET

No question it was a lousy year for LSU football this season. With that said, I feel Miles will right the ship and get that D Coord. at UCLA. Better times are ahead.

Yea good call Gonzeaux. Remember who's actually playing the game...Ga Tech, some middle of the road, average ACC team vs LSU, a powerhouse on the national scene, not just conference scene like Ga Tech. Jackets have a long way to geaux.

And, oh yea, LSU's first td was the game winner buddy. Tigers didn't even need to kick the extra point! Wow, that was easy. What happened to the triple option? Simple, that stuff doesn't work in the SEC.
