Would Stoops leave OU for Chiefs?

I don't think it will happen this year, but I think Bob Stoops will try the NFL at some point. He's too good a coach and has too big a burn to be the best to not venture into that level. He would have before, had it not been for advice from mentor Steve Spurrier, but Stoops isn't Spurrier. He works hard. The Oklahoma coach could bolt to the Kansas City Chiefs now and hope to land Bradford with a top five pick, but it probably won't happen.

With bonuses figured in, Stoops cleared $6 million at Oklahoma this season. How many NFL teams do you think would be willing to shell out that kind of money? Probably zero.

Find something else to write about.

He has a dynasty going at OU. Stoops will never leave for the NFL.

I agree. With the money he's getting paid, why wouldn't he stay and go down as the greatest coach in the history of Sooner football? Bob Stoops Stadium sort of has a ring to it.

IMHO, Stoops would be STOOPID to leave for the NFL unless it's what he always wanted. But I could never understand why a successful college football coach who usually is a GOD on campus would want to go and try to deal with a bunch of over paid egos on an NFL team.

kids listen, professionals dont.

Call up your buddy Spurrier once again before you decide to do this... ask him how well those offence's that put up huge numbers in college work in the NFL...

And this originated from an Austin newspaper. Go figure.

well, if Stoops loses the NC AGAIN, and loses to TX AGAIN next year, i'm guessing that there will be some disgruntled sooners. if he loses to FL. i give him 2 years more tops

Does anyone really think that Tebow is gonna be denied this NC? I just dont think the OU Defense can stop Florida.

Only worked for a handful. Jimmy Johnson comes to mind. Steve Spurrier was a complete bust. Nick Saban was, well just an a=hole.

As long as OU keeps putting up those numbers they only need to outscore them. Besides, did you see the size difference between Julio Jones and the Florida CB's? OU has some tall receivers.

What a joke.

What are you TALKING about? The Sooners own the Big 12. The Sooners have won six of the last nine and three in a row. The Longhorns have only won it twice this century. The Sooners have "only" won one BCS title, but then only LSU has won two.

Honestly, maybe you should stick to the mid-majors.

Don't you have to actually win Championships to win Dynasties? That is like saying The Philadelphia Eagles have a dynasty because they went to NFC Championship a few times.

December 8, 2008  10:14 AM ET

No way. Bobby Stoops is a college coach and nothing more. He needs to stay exactly where he is.

I Agree with your comment, that last College Dynasty was the Huskers in the 90's.

I think Stoops is happy coaching one game a year at Arrowhead Stadium against the Big 12 North Champion. Or at Jerry's "Monstrosity in the Mid-Cities" next season.

And it will be interesting to see an SEC team play against an offense with a pulse.

Stoops has a tag of not winning big games. If he loses another and loses to TX next year, do you honestly think he can ever remove that tag? I said nothing about TX. Turn your paranoria off.
OU will find a way to get rid of him or Stoops will leave if he loses again. Who needs a bully coach that kicks teams already beat but can't finish against the good teams. He lost any vestige of respect when he put Bradford back in with 4 minutes to go Sat.

Stoops is one of the rare build and maintain coaches. You can sense he truly enjoys OK. UF made a run at him after the Zooker and he flat turned it down. If he had travelin' pants, he would have jumped by now.
