FSU's Fisher to Auburn?

Keep an eye on Jimbo Fisher. The Florida State head coach-designate could be lured to Auburn because after two years he's tired of waiting for Bobby Bowden to step down. The guess is Bowden will retire so the school doesn't lose Fisher.

I don't believe it. Bobby will be there at least two years to get the most wins of any coach, and Jimbo will stick it out. How impatient can you be?

December 8, 2008  09:00 AM ET

As a FSU fan, I would like Jimbo to coach the Noles----but-----other then about 7 or 8 schools, FSU can ask and get the attention of everycoach in the country when it come to filling its open slot, and I am not saying there are, but they could find a coach better then Jimbo anyways....so I would not freak out even if he did leave.....

December 8, 2008  09:00 AM ET

Riiiiiight... Jimbo ain't going no where. He's basically calling all the shots at FSU with Bobby just being the figure head.

December 8, 2008  09:09 AM ET

Jimbo already came out and publicly stated on Saturday he was staying. Did this just now hit Austin?

Yeah, and Tuberville said he wasn't leaving Ole Miss (except in a pine box), Saban said he wasn't leaving the Dolphins, etc. etc.

What do you expect for him to say? What would you say if someone asked you if you were looking for another job, knowing your boss would hear about it?

December 8, 2008  09:50 AM ET

I have a feeling that Brian Kelly from Cincinnati might take the job. Jimbo will probably wait it out till Bowden leaves.

December 8, 2008  09:56 AM ET

Fisher has a $5 million buyout if he leaves before 2011. FSU owes Fisher $2.5 million if he is not named HC by 2011.

Auburn is paying 1 HC, 2 OC's and numerous AsstCoaches buyouts right now. The Auburn rags estimate the totals for the next 24 months to be in excess of $8 Million in buyouts. Add 5 bills to that for Fisher's buyout and they are $13million in the crapper before they sign him and he won't be cheap since they will essentially be hiring him away as a HC not an OC - probably 3 bills per year for 5 years.

Ain't happenin'.

Unless Jimbo feels that Bobby isn't going anywhere anytime soon, he isn't going to take this job.

No way Bubba is leaving FSU knowing he's gonna be the coach there for a long time when Bobby gives him the reigns. As a white guy i think they ought to offer the job to Sly Croom look at what he did with Miss. St., but no matter what a white guy will get the job at Auburn to many opportunities out there leaving minorities from advancing to HC jobs just look at Kansas St.(bringing back a retread in retired Snyder when they could have given the job to someone new)
Washington(hired and unproven USC coach only because of the team name)
Tennessee(hired Kiffen what a joke that was)
Clemson(gave the job to Sweeney could have looked elsewhere but this was an ok hire in my book)

I applaud New Mexico for hiring Illinois offensive coordinator Mike Locksley a black coach who deserved a job as a HC finally someone got it right.

Mumme and Robinson should not get anymore HC shots for a long time but Willingham should take a few years off.
Tuberville should get a job like to see him go to Miss. St. what would be a smart hire.
Holtz should stay at ECU. Syracuse should go hire someone with ties to the team like Mullen from Florida but i'd love to see Sly Croom get the job he'd be awesome getting recruits.

Some black coaches that get my nod are:
Tony Pierce, DC, Alabama State University
Karl Dorrell
Charlie Strong, Florida co-defensive coordinator
Ron English, DC, Michigan
Joker Phillips, OC, Kentucky
James Franklin, OC, Kansas State
Calvin Magee, OC, West Virginia
Tyrone Nix, DC, South Carolina
Kevin Sumlin, Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator
Tim Walton, Dc, Miami
DeWayne Walker, DC, UCLA
Jay Norvell, OC, UCLA
Mike London, DC, Virginia
I think in order to get a HC job you should at in the least be a coordinator not a position coach.

Tunner Gill would be a good fit at Auburn.

thank you, I don't know what this dumba*s is talking about, what now hire a coach just beacuse he is black? joker phillips is in line to replace rich brooks, no one has ever heard of the other names you mentioned besides Walker, Nix, and English, but out of the whole lot the only one even worth looking at is Charlie Strong or as husker pride stated Turner Gill. If you want to go for a name as far as minority coaches are concerned that no one is saying people should look as SC States Oliver "Buddy" Pough, or my favorite besides Strong U of Richmond coach Mike London, his spiders just ended App St. playoff streak and he is 11-3.

as far as:

Karl Dorrell............35-27 at UCLA
Sly Croom.............21-38 at Miss St.
Ron Prince.............17-20 at K State

combined: 73-85

just saying.

December 8, 2008  03:09 PM ET

Where does this crap come from. On Saturday, both the President of FSU and Jimbo Fisher announced that Jimbo was not leaving the school, that he had no interest in the job, and that Auburn had not even contacted him. This is not news. "Tired of waiting for Bobby Bowden to step down" ? What a load of crap. Everyone knows that Jimbo is talking to these kids like he's the coach and everyone with half a brain knows that it would be ridiculous for Jimbo to go to Auburn.

The numbers don't make any since for auburn...that said, it wouldn't be the first time bobby lowder and the rest of the aubun boosters did something stupid. Its easy to imagine Jimbo getting impatient while doing all the work and getting none of the credit (not that there's much to go around at fsu these days). Nonetheless, I don't think Fisher is impatient enough to blow a shot at coaching the most/2nd most high profile team in the ACC in order to take over the third best program in the SEC West.

December 8, 2008  04:00 PM ET

Well this depends on what direction my Auburn Tigers are going to take. Does the football program want to continue to progress through the spread offense, whichwas a complete notorious failure being a witness first hand at every home game this season OR are we going back to old school football and find a QB-Manager and pound the ball down hill.

If we are going with the spread offense, then I suggest we go after the Bosie St. head coach or Utah head coach.

If we are going smash mouth then perhaps we can look at Charlie Strong or the HC @ Buffalo.

We would prefer someone with experience with the recruits down in the southeast to compete with other programs and most noticably Saban.

Turner Gill......proven, and can make winners out of people who have never won before. THAT should be a no-brainer.
