08:01 AM ET 12.08 | Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation tell us that Vikings defensive end Jared Allen will be fine after taking a low hit on Sunday from tackle Gosder Cherilus of the Lions. As we hear it, Allen suffered a hyperextension of his left knee, and he possibly has a mild MCL sprain. There's a strong chance Allen will be available to play next weekend, when the Vikings travel to Arizona. Per one source, however, Allen believed after the hit that he was out for the year, and he insisted on playing so that he could go out in a blaze of glory. He was back on the field the very next drive, and he continued to be a force even with the injury. On the day, Allen had five tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

What goes around comes around big mouth.............glad it was not
career ending, but maybe you'll think twice before you do the same
to others like you have done in the past!

thats from schaub. ****

December 8, 2008  08:32 AM ET

It was a cheap hit, no doubt about it. But I don't have much sympathy for a guy who does it to other players week after week. Honestly, how many times is this guy gonna hit a QB in the knees before Goodel stops fining him and starts suspending him?

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy

I'm not defending Jared Allen here, but Cherilus deserves as hefty a fine as he received.

December 8, 2008  09:29 AM ET

Got one poor look in the highlights but from what I have seen of this guy he "had it coming" and shows nothing but a "who me" attitude when he wrecks QBs.....

December 8, 2008  09:40 AM ET

decent

December 8, 2008  10:16 AM ET

My only regret watching the hit was that it wasn't with both shoulders to both knees.

As dirty as this sounds, Allen deserves more.

agreed...there should be a 3 strikes rule for late hits....he's been fined at least 3 times this year for late hits on QBs...and I think the first fine was for numerous hits combined into the one big fine

YOU'RE A MORON. JARED ALLEN HAS BEEN FINED FOR HARD HITS AND LOW HITS. NEVER..AND I REPEAT NEVER HAS HE BEEN FINED FOR A LATE HIT. ALSO, THIS IS A MANS GAME. SHOULD WE GET OUT THE PINK JERSEYS FOR ALL STARTING QUARTERBACKS? MAYBE WE CAN DRESS QB'S IN SHORTS LIKE PRACTICE AND PUT FLAGS AROUND THEIR WASTES. MAN UP.

Looks like karma paid back Allen.

He whines and moans about it...nothing like a ViQueen crying.

Oh yeah, because hits to the knees of vulnerable players are SO much better than late hits. Idiot. Basically you're saying that DEs should be allowed to make hits that guarantee a torn ACL. Try turning caps locks off before you call someone a moron.

Actually, he WAS. He was fined for a late hit on Aaron Rodgers a few weeks ago.

In Allen's defense (ok, so I WILL defend him...a little), he was trying to make a play at the feet of a guy with the ball (the quarterback, obviously). They were low hits, sure, and they warranted fines, yes. But it looked like Cherilus sized his knee up and lunged directly for it. You see defensive players go at guys' knees all of the time (ask Daunte Culpepper), and while it's unfortunate that Shaub was injured because you never want to see a guy get hurt, no matter how minimal the injury, it happens all of the time.

Hey Idiots:
Any cheap shots are unnecessary! Sometimes it happens by accident--sometimes on purpose.
But tell me where any of you heard Jared Allen whining? I read that he had NO COMMENT on whether or not it was a cheap shot.
Go lay by your dish.

Your all crybabies get a life Troy Pagumala said it best its turned into a sissy game! Quit crying people Jared Allen is a stand up guy at least he goes out and earns his paycheck! What about the cheap shot Gus took a weak earlier we as Viking fans never cry we go on obviously there are alot of angry fans out there that need to shut up and get a life!

December 8, 2008  02:55 PM ET

Jared Allens fined hits were not even CLOSE to as dirty as that one was. ANYONE who has ever played the game or is a big enough fan of THE GAME knows that. Put your fanship aside fer chrissakes-"Cherilus sized his knee up and lunged directly for it" is well stated and exactly what happened.

December 8, 2008  03:13 PM ET

By the way...Jared is an extreme player and an old school hardass-meatlocker guy to be sure. Even Butkus will say so and Dick was the BOMB.

Jared gets his arm damn near torn out of the socket and keeps playing- even one arm tackled Smith with his bad arm! Gets the dirtiest cheap shot I have seen all year to his knee and still knocks out 2 sacks!?

Anyone who says this guy is a 'whiner' should have lined up against him. Anyone who says 'karma' has anything to do with this also could use some time on the field.

There is no karma on the football field kids. None. There is payback, but it certainly was not the case with this rookie who leapfrogged specifically at a knee. He didn't know who he was kneecapping, he just made a dirty jump-KNOWING it was for a knee. There is also accountability and Cherilus needs to be held accountable just as Jared was.

BUY THE TICKET TAKE THE RIDE. That's all. IMO: this is no place for all this 'my team' and 'your team' BS. This is to ask "was Cherilus hit dirty?
