Sarkisian to stick with QB Locker

Huskies quarterback Jake Locker could be the player most impacted by the hire of Steve Sarkisian as Washington's new football coach. Sarkisian plans to bring with him the basics of the offense he ran at USC, a prostyle, two-back attack that hasn't traditionally featured a lot of running by the quarterback. Locker, meanwhile, has running ability so uncommon that former coach Tyrone Willingham had changed his offense accordingly, putting in a lot of elements of the spread option. But after getting his first meeting with his new coach, Locker said Monday afternoon he's excited about the hire and thinks it might be what the Huskies need right now. Sarkisian said he plans to keep the offense similar to what it was at USC but that he will tweak things around Locker's skills. However, he also said he doesn't want Locker to bear the burden of having to be the entire offense.

What other choice did he have? It's a no brainer to stick with Locker who is the team's best player.

The better question is whether Locker will stick with the Huskies. I know he's a local guy, but his talent was wasted for two years; I'd hate to see him suffer for two more while going 3-9 and listening to the ubiquitous "Sark has to get his recruits in" jibberish. Florida and Texas will be looking for QBs in a year; JL ought to think about a transfer and a year off.

He's going to make Locker into a man....

December 9, 2008  10:06 AM ET

Sark... Is the best thing that will ever happen to Locker... UDub might stink for the two remaining years he is there... But Sark will develop him in a big way... Stay the course Jake... If you want to know how to play QB for the next level... Sark is the guy to help you get there

Two top notch comments right off the bat. Exactly right.. And as for the story itself... talk about a blinding glimpse of the obvious...

Locker should have went out of state.

I HATE ALL YOU PEOPLE.. Locker is a husky through and through he was on the commitee to find a new coach. hes not going anywhere. Sark is going prove that he can turn this program around and fast. he said this morning on KJR 950 that hes going to try and hire norm chow. you people dont know anything about loyalty and that explains why you are not a DAWG!

If he was on the committee to find your new coach, then Udub's admin is stupid.

Hes by far there best player. Locker could be naother Tebow if he had any talent around him.

December 9, 2008  04:11 PM ET

who cares. Udub will be worthless but still a tad better in the near future. Give it 3yrs Husky fans and then you ought to have enough clout to run your mouths. Until then, be quiet and let your new coach do his thing.

UW and loyalty...please I don't even want to get started on that topic.

As a WSU fan this is the best hire from my standpoint UW could have made...Thank god UW didn't get Leach, Pinkel or Chow to be the head coach. There is no way norm is leaving UCLA for the same position at UW, sorry guys. Sarkisian is not a great OC. I bet Pete is happy he is gone. USC's offense has been their weak point the last couple of years, while they have had some of the best talent on offense in the nation. This should hold down the program for another 5 years.

CONGRATS ON THE PERFECT SEASON 0-12!!!!

Gees....your either one Butt-ugly lady, or a dude taking some strange meds. Sarkisian had better get used to Not having Chow and learn how to coach himself. So far he has, NO track record of his own, and no talent to work with. The TY days drained the pool. There is nothing to work with....and If Sark is going to sell hemself to the Socal recruits for future talent, he had better know how to disguise shinola....In three years he might get to 6-6. Until then 3-4 wins tops...
Meanwhile check yourself into a good PMS program lady.

You're just happy that UW is taking up the coveted spot of worst team itc. Of course Wazzu is just ahead of them at 2nd worst team itc.

I will agree with you on the perfect season though. Willingham knows that if you're going to take a program somewhere you should take 'em all the way there!

Thanks Ty!!! The Huskies are perfect!!!

i doubt he would go on radio and announce that he would hire away the offensive coordinator from a rival school, because if he doesnt get chow it looks like he promises what he cant deliver. this is especially true since norms wife likes it so much in so. cal. she stayed here when he worked for the titans, he only went to work for ucla because he would stay home.
