With no response from top target CC Sabathia, the Yankees have instensified their efforts to sign free-agent starters Derek Lowe and A.J. Burnett. The Yankees appear to be considering a five-year proposal for Burnett, who has received strong interest from about a half-dozen teams, including the Braves, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles. Darek Braunecker, Burnett's agent, met with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman late Monday night. As for Lowe, the Yankees are negotiating with Lowe's agent, Scott Boras, about a four-year deal for more than $65 million. The Phillies are among several teams that have shown strong interest in Lowe.

we're gonna end up w CC and Burnett. Or CC and Lowe. Think about this. CC, Burnett, Wang, Joba, and idk, Hughes? Pretty unstoppable. Let's see what happens. Regardless, the AL East is going to be a scary place for hitters. The best that money can buy. I am both ecstatic and extremely shameful to be a Yankees fan

JUST IN WE GOT CC WONDER WHATS AND WHOS NEXT?

Between Lowe and Burnett it's the lesser of two evils; age and intermittent mediocrity vs. potential Pavano. I guess I'd have to go with Burnett - he's pre-disastered!

we now cannot offer the 5th year to burnett....
if he can get 5 somewhere else- so be it

As for lowe- simmilar thing- NO 4th year
- he's too old to 'lock up'

- Wang, Joba, cc is a STOUT top 3....
no need to 'waste' money and YEARS on the 2 above...
Cashman- you've gotten YOUNGER...STAT AWAY from
mid-30's ballplayers.....WE DON'T NEED THEM

I'd much rather now concentrate on the outfield-
unfortunately- not sure who of quality is out there

With CC in the bag hopefully the Yankees will leave Burnett for the Braves.

I hope so.....

no reason to sign an over 30, injury plagued pitcher
that only has healthy/solid years in walk-years
to a 4 or 5 year deal....

He has not signed anything yet, hope he does not disappoint you all, Giants are looking to make a bid now, he may just wait and see what they offer.

He reached an agreement with Yankees. There is no way anybody else can compete with their money.

You're right. If Sabathia can pitch 230, for the money he's getting now he can pitch 460. We'll be just fine with three pitchers. <rolls eyes>

REACHED an agreement via the rumor mill, nothing has been signed he can still back out if he wants to.

lol.....
I'm not saying they stay pat- but hopefully Hughes can be #5
and we can sign a lesser tier guy like sheets or garland for
MUCH less years and $$$

I just can't see 'locking up' 2 or 3 guys to 5 year+ deals
who does that ??

you lost me at "idk"

I know who "idk" is but he should change his initials to "IBS" because that's what he gave me. I wouldn't count on this guy being in the rotation......

Yankees need to give the big money to all the over the hill gang. 4 years for Lowe and they might get 1 good, 1 mediocre, and 2 nothing years from him. 5 for Burnett, might get 2 good years out of him. Go for it, get that payroll close to 300 mil.

QUOTE(#15):

Yankees have too many holes. Their defense is perhaps the worst in baseball. Sabathia will help, but not nearly enough. And more than likely, he'll have injuries in the next couple of year.

yanks do have some holes, but big CC just plugged a big gaping one on the mound. the defense should improve with better pitching. need a CF though.....

CC has never had an injury so hopefully he'll stay that way. funny how the fat ones can be durable - don't recall boomer wells getting hurt that much. now burnett and sheets are a different story.

I think you should trade us Hughes for Ankiel. You're not going to need him after you sign at least two more free agent starters. You could use another left handed power bat now that Giambi is gone.
